Happy Friday, friends! This has been SUCH A GOOD WEEK!  I love the time between Christmas and New Year's.... the relatively empty calendars, the snacks, the time at home, the reorganization projects... I love it all!  This week puts a big ol' smile on my face!

Christmas 2023

Our Christmas was VERY low key this year which is just how we like it ;). We told the kids they could come downstairs at 8:30 and the elves left a "jingle bell booby trap" just in case anyone decided to venture down early.

Christmas Eve

We kicked off Christmas with brunch with my brother and his family.  It's loud and busy and SO MANY BOYS but we wouldn't have it any other way.

Friday Favorites

Erika and I are so excited that lots of y'all are linking up with us every week.  Make sure that you're grabbing our graphic, linking back to us and sharing your own Friday Favorites post ;)

This entire week has been my FAVORITE!  We've slept in and laid around and done not a whole lot which has been the absolute best. We've played games until late, watched movies and just had the best time.

A FAVORITE was celebrating Christmas a bit early with family....

Which included pinatas ;)  How could pinatas NOT be a favorite?!?!

This meme cracked me up this week...

... and Jelly Bean's FAVORITE spot during the holidays is always on the console in our dining room behind this garland.  I have no clue why. hahaha

We went and say Migration with my dad...

... is there anything better than movie theater popcorn?!?!? Absolutely not.

Mason has been doing his thing this week and decided to raid the craft closet and see where it led him.  Well... he found a box of 1000 popsicle sticks and a ton of hot glue and he ended up making a "Christmas house" complete with a tree made of pipe cleaners and skewers.  Its darling.

We completed our puzzle advent calendar (linked it  HERE along with a few other Christmas favorites!)

G and I hit up the square for a quick afternoon errand this week and grabbed a piece of our FAVORITe pie...

... and a new friend ;)

Cookies and games have been a FAVORITE...

... and so had reading "treeside" with chocolate milk ;)

Our elves have been up to some antics which is always a FAVORITE...

... and birks with socks (even in public!) have been a FAVORITE...

... and so has lots of snuggle time ;)

HAPPY Friday and MERRY CHRISTMAS, friends!!!

Santa Pics

Y'all know I LOVE a Santa photo.  It's something we've done every year and I didn't realize how important they were to me until 2020 when the thought of not being able to have a Santa photo just about did me in. hahaha  My kids will be home from college and I'll be dragging them to see Santa ;)  #noshame

When the photographer who did our Christmas card pics advertised super quick Santa minis I jumped on them and I'm so gladI did.

November/December Books - Part I

Birdie and Harlow

I don't even know where to begin with Birdie and Harlow.  I've followed Taylor on IG for years and think she's hilarious and while this book was funny it was unexpectedly poignant and touching.  It was more about motherhood than I anticipated and I love how she interwove the stories.  I was listening to it while grading exams at school and had to pause it and save it for when I got home because I knew I was going to lose it and MAN did I lose it.  I sobbed and laughed and it was just so so good.  I listened to it on audible which I think is an absolute must to really get the whole Har/Carl thing and I honestly just can't recommend this book enough.  I loved everything about it.

Boursin Potatoes

Last week a friend tagged me in a reel of some Boursin cheesy potatoes and I immediately knew I had to make them.  I looked at a few recipes and then just kind of winged it and they turned out DELISH!  These would be great for Christmas as a side to steak or ham or you could serve them on a random Sunday night alongside meatloaf like I did ;) hahaha

What You'll Need...

 - about 3 lbs of potatoes (I used Yukon gold)

- salt and pepper

- 1 cup cream, 1 cup milk (or 2 cups cream)

- 1 round of garlic and herb boursin cheese

- garlic, salt, and pepper

What You'll Do...

Wash your potatoes and pat to dry.  Slice them thin (but not super thin).

Heat your cream/milk and Boursin until melted and combined.  I really don't think it matters how much cream and/or milk.  You just need about 2 cups.  I wouldn't use all milk, but I used a mixture of cream, half and half and milk to make my 2 cups and it worked out just fine!

Place a layer of potatoes in a greased baking dish, crack on some pepper, sprinkle on some salt and toss on some chopped garlic.  Pour on about half of the cream.  Repeat with the rest of the potatoes, finishing with cream.

Pop them in the oven at 400ish for about an hour.  Just keep an eye on them.  You want the potatoes to be tender, but not too done... you know?   I had mine in with a meatloaf at 375 for about 40 minutes and then cranked it up to 400 for the last 15 or so.  Let them sit for a few minutes to thicken up and then serve all hot and bubbly.

My family gobbled these up so fast I didn't even have a chance to take an official pictures so I had to grab a screenshot of my IG story - hahaha Next time I make them I'll take better pics!

Weekend Top 4

1) G's Christmas Show
Griffin was part of her dance studios Christmas show again this year and it was so sweet.  The girls all audition back in the Fall and rehearse on Saturdays all season to get ready and it's just the cutest show.  So proud of all of their hard work!

Brown Paper Packages

The past few years I've mixed and matched several different wrapping papers to coordinate with a super pretty nutcracker giftwrap I found online.  This year I stumbled upon  this floral velvet ribbon and it was love at first sight so I decided to work around it and I'm so glad I did!

Christmas Home Tour THE END ;)

Y'all know I started a love affair with these vintage concrete swans over the summer and I'm here to say that I still adore them.  I have one on our outdoor dining table and one here in the dining room.

Weekend Recap

This weekend was filled with lots of festive fun... I still haven't hit the slow-mo button so I'm trying my best to soak it all in!

Saturday night was the downtown McKinney parade of lights which has been one of our favorite events for years and years.  My kids have opted to ride on the school floats off and on over the years, but Griffin has always wanted to watch instead of ride.  This was her last year to be a part of one of our elementary school floats and I'm so glad she chose to ride with her friends.

Teacher Gift Guide

Today I'm sharing gift ideas for teachers.  I get this question A LOT this time of year so here we go!  I know that this can be a bit overwhelming ESPECIALLY if you have a middle or high schooler (or both!) who have 7+ teachers and one idea is to find a few other parents in the same boat as you and pool your gifts together to get one gift card or other gift for each teacher. Keep that in mind as you're reading! ;)

 - NOTE/GIFT CARD -

My favorite teacher gift to give and receive are gift cards.   $5 to Sonic or Starbucks... A Baskin Robins gift card to take their kids out for ice cream or a Cinemark card to check out a movie with their kids over break.  A gift card for a local restaurant to enjoy a meal with their spouse or a gift card to their favorite store.  EASY!  Write a note, pop the card in the envelope and call it a day!  I know gift cards get a bad wrap for being impersonal but I think if you pick a place that you know a teacher loves or write a note about enjoying a meal with their family it can make it super personal and special.

I use my  O-Ring every day and keep my teacher ID and key card in the  ID holder on the ring.  It makes my keys easily accessible (and identifiable if I leave them somewhere!) and the silicone are my favorite option for school because I can wipe them down with disinfectant.

I've sung the praises of my Stanley cup for a couple of years now and it's lived up to every bit of hype.  I love how big it is.  I love the handle.  I love that it keeps ice frozen for a full day.  We gave these to Mason and G's teachers last Christmas and they loved them!  If you're local and on the hunt I was at Dick's in Prosper last weekend and they had A TON!

I've professed my love for BOGG Bags repeatedly and today is no different.  I'm linking them  HERE on Amazon but your best bet is to follow them on IG and see if they do a sale.  A few years ago I was able to grab the smaller size bag (Baby Bogg) for all of my kids teachers for about $25 each!

I KNOW I've been a bogg bag advocate and I STILL AM... BUT there's a new bag in town that I just can't quit.  It's called a Hulken and it HAS WHEELS!!!  It holds EVERYTHING and it makes carting all the things back and forth so easy.  Honestly... if I had to pick one as a teacher bag I'd pick the Hulken.  I KNOW!!!

Listen, y'all.  Teachers. Love. Flair. Pens.

This is a bigger gift BUT if you're going in with other families or if your budget allows and you want to give something extra special  a saranoni blanket would be a HUGE hit!

Last year for the middle school teachers we bought breakfast tacos from Rudy's and put them in the workroom with a thank you note from our boys.  Anytime you can feed teachers we appreciate it ;) Around the holidays everyone is thinking sweets but a hot breakfast goes a long way!

Hoping this post got your wheels turning OR gave you the permission you needed to pop a gift card in an envelope (or in an email!) and cross something off your list!  HAPPY THURSDAY, friends!

Guys Gift Guide

A couple of weeks ago I shared a "guys gifts under $25" guide and today I'm sharing a few more items that are a bit more expensive to round out the list.

Dave LOVES  these polo shirts and the quality is out of this world.  The collars are crisp and never get wrinkly and he attests to the fabric being "way better" than most other polos.  He has a bunch at this point and loves them all.

Christmas Doodle Town

Having to change my original post for today due to a migraine and kid with an ear infection so I'm re-sharing my Christmas doodle town just in time for the last couple of weeks of school if you're a teacher and time at home with your kiddos or grandkids if you're not a teacher ;)
