Reading Recap

 Calamity Club

Y'ALL. This book!!! I went into Calamity Club not really knowing what to expect, and let me just tell you... I was NOT prepared for all the feelings.

I absolutely loved the mix of humor, heart, friendship, and unexpected twists in this one. The women were such a fun group of characters, and I loved watching their relationships develop as they navigated some seriously messy situations. And can we talk about the "business venture" they ended up starting?!?! Because I did NOT see that coming. Hahaha! Not even a little bit.

What really surprised me, though, was how emotional this book ended up being. I was expecting a fun, quirky story about women finding their way, and while it definitely delivered on that, there was SO much more depth than I anticipated. And toward the end? I SOBBED. Like, full-on ugly cried in a way I haven't cried over a book in a LONG time. I was completely unprepared for how deeply certain parts of this story would hit me.

I love a book that can make me laugh out loud one minute and absolutely break my heart the next, and this one did exactly that. It's a story about friendship, second chances, showing up for people, and finding family in unexpected places. Such a fun, surprising, and ultimately really touching read. I won't be forgetting this one anytime soon!

Bonus - I listened to this one on audible and LOVED the narration!

Dolly All The Time

This book was such a fun surprise!!! I wasn't entirely sure what to expect going into Dolly All the Time, but I ended up really enjoying this one.

First of all, I loved Dolly. She's the kind of character who is a little messy, a little complicated, and SO easy to root for. I loved that she didn't have everything figured out and that so much of her story was about learning who she was, what she wanted, and how to move forward when life doesn't look quite like she expected.

This book had such a great mix of humor, heart, and those little moments that make you stop and think. I found myself laughing at certain parts and then turning around and feeling surprisingly emotional about others. I especially loved the relationships and the way the story explored what it means to love people well, figure things out as you go, and give yourself a little grace along the way.

It's quirky and charming without being overly cutesy, and I loved that there was some real substance underneath all the fun. I always appreciate a book that entertains me but also leaves me with something to think about, and this one definitely did both.

Such a sweet, funny, heartfelt read with a main character I won't soon forget!

Big Little Truths

I read Big Little Lies years ago and haven't watched the show (movie???) so it took me a minute to kind of remember the plot but once I got into this one it all came back to me and I LOVED that it revisited those characters.

"It was so much fun catching up with all of these characters, and being the same age as them, I could really relate to the menopause, marriage and teenage issues. There were also quite a few genuine laugh-out-loud moments.

As with Big Little Lies, Liane Moriarty does a brilliant job of mixing very real issues with plenty of humour and a fast-paced story. I really struggled to close this one and go to bed at night — which is always a pretty good sign!

I honestly didn't want it to end. If Moriarty could just make this an annual series so I can check in with these characters once a year, that would be perfect."

If you liked Big Little Lies you'll really enjoy this second book and if you haven't read Big Little Lies I'd read that first if you can!

HAPPY Reading, friends!
