Weekend Recap (Halloween Edition)

This weekend was PACKED with fun from Friday night through Sunday night.  I'm officially the number one fan of Halloween on a Saturday!

We had planned on carving pumpkins earlier in the week but life got in the way and we ended up making a whole night of it on Friday.  We carved, ate pizza and watched a couple of movies outside.

It was so much fun!

Mason.  1000% at all times :)

We had popcorn and blondies and admired the kids very different takes on pumpkin carving :)

Saturday morning Griffin had her last volleyball game of the season at EIGHT AM!  I'm going to miss watching her team play but will NOT miss the 8 a.m. games!

Her team is the SWEETEST and had such a great season and Griffin REALLY loved volleyball.  Their plan is to continue this winter with some clinics and intensives and play again in the Spring.

We went pretty much straight from Griffin's game to Mason's Super Bowl.  His team has been together for a few years now and it's been so fun to watch them improve season to season.  They worked SO HARD this  year and had to play the only team they lost to all season in the final game.

They started off super strong and held them to 14-0 at the half but it literally came down to our boys stopping the other team from scoring in the last seconds of the game and THEY DID IT!

Hard work pays off!  Look at those cuties!

And their cheering section made up of friends from school, "the little sisters club" and a boys from the second 4th grade team (we had enough boys to make two full teams this year)

We came home and spent the afternoon playing and cleaning up outside and did an easy dinner out on the patio before trick-or-treating.

Fruits, veggies, dips and grilled cheese sandwiches...

... and a special dinner guest :)

Everyone was SO EXCITED to get dressed and Griffin was OVER THE MOON with her costume choice....

She wanted her brothers to be "Toy Story" with her but they were not on board so she recruited the dogs to be in on it with her :)

We learned a valuable lesson that even the largest dog costumes are no match for Rosie...

... and will be sticking to human shirts and/or accessories from now on.

Luke had a couple of friends come over and they set off on their own and we had a few families join us to trick-or-treat in our neighborhood.

Lots of people were out both trick-or-treating and passing out treats and it was fun to see the different creative ways people were passing out treats.  There were candy chutes, candy staked in yards and lots of people had tables set up at the end of their driveway with chairs nearby to chit chat and see the costumes. We all had a blast and

The kids and parents all had a great time and it was one of my favorite Halloweens to date.

A couple of Mason's friends spent the night with us and there was some MAJOR candy sorting/trading going on...

... and just when I thought it was over Luke and his friends got back and even more candy chaos ensued :)

This was Sunday morning but Y'ALL!!! WHAT IN THE WORLD?!?!!  This is all Luke's candy - it's ridiculous!  Thankfully our school is collecting items to pack care packages for troops serving overseas and individually wrapped candy is included in that list so most of this will be making it's way out of my house and across the world.

We ended the night watching movies and passing out in our costumes.  Signs of a great time!

Happy Wednesday, friends!!!

  5. Wow! That is quite a candy haul! Lots of good varieties in there too; most people around here hand out tootsie rolls (which I do not like at all).

    B. Rosie has the perfect dog tongue. That sounds odd now that I'm typing it, but she does!

  8. GG & the dogs are too cute. Luke's candy haul cracks me up! Can you believe you have a kid old enough to send out trick-or-treating with friends? I'm sure they had a blast! I miss those days with my kids (both now in their 20's).

  9. We save some of our extra Halloween candy for Gingerbread Houses in December! Why rebuy all of that candy? M&Ms, Skittles, Kit Kats, Twizzlers, Hershey Bars, etc. are great on Gingerbread Houses.
