There has been a lot of talk at our house about the election and what that's all going to look like tonight which led to some discussion about the Electoral College.
We watched the video below...
... which does a really great job of explaining the process of popular vs. electoral votes and I made a quick printable for my kids to use tonight as we watch the votes come in.
They've already used the sheet with all of the states on it to label how many electoral votes go with each state on the map and then as states start turning blue or red they can color them in accordingly and mark down the state and number of votes on the Trump/Biden page.
Who knows whether we'll know anything tonight BUT they're interested in the process which we think is great and I'm thinking making it fun and engaging with this little activity (and cupcakes!) will make for a memorable evening regardless.
You can grab the set HERE and it's totally free ;) Enjoy and tag me if you use it tonight!
How fun & informative! Four sets printed for the teenagers!
ReplyDeleteI was just talking about doing this! Perfect for my 7 year old.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, Andrea! We're printing in our house too!
ReplyDeletewhat a great way to get your kids involved in learning how the President of the United States is elected. So many young people (and let's face it, adults) don't understand how important the Electoral College is for our country.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I just printed two sets for my teenagers! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing! I just printed to use with my six-year-old. :) It will go along perfectly with the picture book we just read, Grace for President, by Kelly DiPucchio.
ReplyDeleteWe'll be watching from Canada, particularly for Texas results! Thanks for this as I barely understand the Electoral College. I know the news channels try to explain it but I zone out, maybe with some paper I figure it out!
ReplyDeleteWell isn't that clever?! Love it!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this! My 7-year-old is asking a lot of questions about the election, so this will be a great tool for us to use together.

Thank you so much! This helped my nine year old be interested in the election until 10:15pm. And we live in Canada so it's not even our politics :)
