Today is a random assortment of this and that.
First up is a craft that was a big hit with my boys (especially Luke). Yesterday they wanted to do a project and when I went to the craft closet and saw the popsicle sticks and yarn I had flashbacks to summer camp and decided to introduce the boys to one of my favorite childhood projects :)
All you need it yarn and popsicle sticks. I happened to have variegated yarn on hand (which is my favorite kind to use), but any yarn would work. You could also use two regular sticks that you find outdoors if you don't have popsicle sticks.
You could easily glue the sticks together, but I haven't found that necessary - all you need to do it hold the sticks together in a cross shape and then wrap several times around one way and then several times around the other until you have the center all wrapped and secure.
Mason required some assistance, but he did great! I ended up holding the sticks and rotating it and he did the wrapping.
When you get to the end, cut a tail, loop it through on the back and tie a knot. Easy Peasy!
Luke was skeptical at first, but I think I've created a new addiction for him. He's asked me about 3 times tonight when we can go get more yarn :)
In true Luke fashion he ran with the idea and wanted to know what it would look like with the bigger popsicle sticks and then he went and taped popsicle sticks together to make an XL size one. He's plotting a giant one using sticks from the backyard as well :)
Here's a little video of Luke wrapping because I feel like that is a WAY easier way to explain how to do it :)
It was easy and mess-free and I loved how creative Luke got with it.
And while the boys and I were working at the table, GG was coloring on the window seat. She REALLY wanted to color outside, but it was about 700 degrees outside and so we pulled up the blinds and pretended she was outside instead :)
I've gotten TONS of questions recently about the trays that my kids use all the time and so I wanted to share the info again.
Our table is slatted and so when we first moved in I need a solution for the crumbs (UGH!) and coloring and writing and I found THESE.
It's a set of four for $18 and they can go in the dishwasher (I usually just wipe them down). We use them constantly and I couldn't be more pleased. You can find them HERE.
Last week I posted some picks from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and somehow I left out some of our favorite shoes and in the sweetest bubblegum pink! Mini Melissas tend to run small, so keep that in mind if you decide to order
Happy Wednesday, Friends!

You're bringing back the memories! That craft makes me think of Vacation Bible School!
ReplyDeleteRight?!?! WE used to make them with sticks :)
DeleteI love a little this and that from the McAnallys :).
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking you should do a post on your craft closet...because i bet it is AWESOME!! I have one for my girls, but I feel like every time I go to do something creative or crafty, I never have everything I need! I love how you can come up with spur-of-the-moment crafts and ideas for your kids!!
ReplyDeleteI did one a while ago here... http://www.momfessionals.com/2015/08/craft-questions-answered.html
DeleteBut I'll for sure show our new space when I blog about our office. Thanks, Lisa!
Cute craft idea, friend!! I feel like the kids could do this on our road trip also!! Going to pick some yarn up today!!
ReplyDeleteYES!!! That's a fantastic idea!! And then you'd have gifts for family when you arrived :)
DeleteThanks for sharing those trays, I was eyeing them the other day! What a cool, fun and easy craft, my oldest would love it!
ReplyDeleteThe trays are the best thing ever and if you try the craft let me know what you think!
DeleteI want to do the yarn craft!
ReplyDeleteDidn't we JUST have a craft day??? Oh wait... that was like 8 years ago. ;) I think it's time for another.
DeleteWe love God's Eyes at our house too! We discovered (Thank you, Pinterest!) how to make a turtle, using the same technique but adding a third popsicle stick and a turtle face and feet. You and the boys should give it a try! Next up...in true camp fashion... you should make some Rexlace (plastic ribbon) crafts!
ReplyDeleteI need to look it up!!! How fun does the turtle sound!
DeleteLove it! My kids adore making those, we always called them God's Eyes when we were kids!
ReplyDeleteYES! I couldn't remember the name - although I think God's Eye is kind of creepy. hahaha
DeleteI used to make those all the time when I was little! As a matter of fact, I still have one of my old ones.
ReplyDeleteSo fun!
DeleteI was just telling my sisters about those trays! I have a feeling we will all be getting them soon!
ReplyDeleteThey're the best!!! Such a simple little lifesaver :)
