Day in the Life

I woke up last Tuesday and decided to document my day - so here we go!  Dave leaves around 8:00 and the boys leave around 7:45 to get to cross country.  Now that Luke has his license I am FREEEEEEEE to sleep in and enjoy my mornings - AMEN.

Some mornings I'm up at 7:30 when I hear the boys shuffling around.  Other mornings I am out cold until 9:00.  This particular morning I was up around 8:00, I made a cup of tea and I settled back into bed for a few blissful minutes of reading.  Since Dave is up and at 'em he takes the dogs out and puts Frank in bed with me and he settles right in for the morning ;)

The morning kind of got away from me and I forgot I had a dentist appointment (AHHH!) so I ran my fingers through my hair, threw on an easy dress...

... wrote G a quick note since the boys were still at XC...

... left it on the real classy TV box turned gate that we use to keep the dogs downstairs since I knew she'd see it on her way down. hahaha

I actually passed the boys on my way to the dentist (SURREAL!) and pulled in right at 9:40.  PHEW.

Fun fact: I've been going to the same dental office since 1997 and I'm fairly certain these chairs were there back then ;) It's not the same dentist anymore but I love the nostalgia that coming here brings me.

Got my teeth cleaned and was home by 11:00 where Mason informed me that part of his bracket had fallen off.  Awesome.

Second cup of tea...

... and I started on some laundry and made some sourdough peanut butter toast.

Said good morning to this sleepy head who has been sleeping in WAY late this summer...

... G and I checked the mail where we had a random magazine that had this recipe in it that she said she for sure wanted to make ;)

What were the boys doing after XC and showering?  Video games. hahaha

Griffin was working on some friendship bracelets and I worked on a Walmart order (including the ingredients for the strawberry jello dessert)...

... and Costco order.

I spent a few minutes putting things in my planner and made the kids a little checklist of things to do before they could have screens in the afternoon ;). Some days we do this, some days we don't.  It really just varies day to day.

Mason knocked out some of his list....

... while Luke made himself a lunch of leftovers.

Luke brought down a shirt from XC that he "forgot" to bring down earlier.  Can you tell it was muddy that morning?  I've been using Dawn Powerwash as a stain remover and haven't encountered anything it can't get out so far.

Mason finished up some of his list and then decided to make macaroni and cheese for himself and Griffin (anyone else get major nostalgia with a summer mac and cheese lunch???)

I decided to take care of this...

... while G bathed Meatloaf.

At this point it's about 1:15 and I had a tiny bit of cookie dough left so I scooped out some cookies and popped those into the oven...

... and delivered them to Mason who brought them upstairs for movie time.

Checked this off my list...

... and then got to work making my lunch.

When my kids were little we always had quiet time in the afternoon - they didn't have to nap, but they had to be in their rooms.  It was typically like 1:00 - 3:00 or something like that (after morning errands and pool time) and I would take that time to have a quiet lunch and watch a show or read or (sometimes) take a nap.  Now that they're bigger the tradition continues - except now instead of having to have "quiet time" they'll watch a movie while playing a game, listen to music while hanging in their rooms, etc.

I watched some Dancing for the Devil and then had a piece of lemon cake...

... and then around 2:30 my Costco order arrived...

... so I pulled the rotisserie chicken while the kids help put things away...

... and then I sent a couple of emails and did some blog stuff for a bit before the Walmart order arrived around 3:15...

... Griffin got this scrub for her birthday and it smells SO GOOD!

Got the Walmart stuff put away and we sat down to play some Rummoli...

... and then around 4:00 got started on the dessert.

The boys had their strength workout at 4:30 so they left around 4:10...

... Griffin went back to her bracelet business and I was left to tackle this. hahaha

Later it was time for snacks and snuggles...

... still baking...

... and then around 5:30 I checked in on my to-do-list.  Sometimes this list has 4 things.  Sometimes a bunch. Whatever I don't have to do that day and don't get done just gets moved to the next but I do like having some sort of idea of things I need to be working on.

Griffin was watching a movie (she was going to swim but it started raining) so I got in bed to start checking some things off my list and watch some more of the documentary...

... and then the boys were home (and super sweaty).  Typically they'll all swim after workouts but because it was gross outside they both showered and got cleaned up and jumped on xbox for a bit.

Dave got home a little after 6 and everyone was settled in just relaxing so I wrapped up some things on my list and then did some quiet time and didn't even start dinner until after 7:00.

We kept things SUPER simple with boursin brussels...

... smoked turkey sausage and some pasta.

While that was going I took like 10 minutes to clean up and wipe down my bathroom counter...

... and we sat down to eat pretty much right at 8:00.

Strawberry pretzel bars for dessert (recipe coming tomorrow!)...

... and they ate HALF OF IT. hahaha. I'd rather things get eaten than wasted but MY WORD.

After dinner I did my nighttime routine...

... and then we played some games and I crashed on the couch while we were watching a movie.  Not ideal for finishing up my post but it is what it is ;)

HAPPY Tuesday and happy summer, friends!
