Calling all peanut butter lovers!!! Today is your lucky day because OH MY WORD do I have a recipe for you.
We had dinner with friends on Sunday night and I brought a dessert and knowing that there was going to be a crowd and a bunch of kids I decided to try out this recipe and it did not disappoint! As I was making it I was was mildly concerned (it seems kind of weird as it's coming together) but everyone loved it and it was UNREAL without being way too much.
What You'll Need
- 1 package chocolate cake mix
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, divided
- dash of salt
- 2/3 cup creamy peanut butter
- 2 cans (14 oz each) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup confectioners sugar
- peanut butter cups, nutter butters, etc.
What You'll Do...
- Step One - Preheat oven to 350°. Prepare cake mix according to package directions, adding 1 teaspoon vanilla and salt before mixing batter. Transfer to a greased 13x9-in. baking pan and then bake and cool completely as package directs.
If you have a helper now is when you can get them cracking eggs, measuring out ingredients, etc. :)
- Step Two - Whisk peanut butter and milk until blended. Using the end of a wooden spoon handle, poke holes in cake 2 in. apart. Slowly pour 2 cups peanut butter mixture over cake, filling each hole. Refrigerate cake and remaining peanut butter mixture, covered, until cake is cold, 2-3 hours.
Step Three - Combine remaining vanilla and remaining peanut butter mixture; gradually beat in enough confectioners' sugar to reach a spreading consistency. Spread over cake. Add toppings as desired. Refrigerate leftovers.
It was super fun all sliced up and plated on a large tray with extra cookies and peanut butter cups so if someone wasn't in the mood for a big ol' piece of cake they could still have some peanut butter deliciousness ;)

DeleteI've been making something very similar for years only at the base is brownies instead of cake and it looks like a few other minor differences. But, you're right, it is always a huge hit!
