Today I'm sharing a "Day in the Life" from last Thursday. It was a day with no activities after school and I thought it would be fun to share a more low key kind of evening.
I always wake up at the very last possible minute.... and even then I lay in bed and think about how long I can stay there until it's almost too late :) NOT a morning person over here!
This was the moment I was debating how dirty my hair really was and whether or not a shower was totally necessary.
I'm obviously a big Moroccanoil fan... I use the treatment on the ends of my wet hair and then spray in the root boost and perfect defense heat protectant as I blow dry. After I blow dry I use the dry texture spray because day 1 hair can be a little "too clean" for me. I am still loving this dryer because of how smooth it makes my hair and how quick it makes the process!
Out of the shower, hair dried and out to the kitchen to grab another cup of tea and these three are dressed and eating some breakfast casserole...
I put on my makeup use my Vitamin C complex and sheer renewal cream before...
... the kids came in to get their hair fixed. Also at this point I realized that I didn't like what I was wearing and made a last minute switch...
... to a sweater that needed to get steamed so I steamed it as good as I could while wearing it (I know, I know)...
... threw on a jacket and was out the door by about 7:15. Later than I like, but we made it work.
Our morning jam on the way to school (took this BEFORE WE LEFT THE DRIVEWAY!)...
"Hey! Let me grab your picture before we walk in!"
Pretty much sums it up...
The kids headed to their classes and I headed to my room to sort through this hot mess that I had thrown in my bag Wednesday and then ended up not touching at home - such is life.
I ended up getting everything out and sorted by class...
... before heading to a BIG DOGS meeting. Big Dogs is a discipleship group thing for 5th graders and this year my planning period lined up with the monthly meeting time so I'm able to help.
After Big Dogs I headed into teaching classes until lunch with some water refills...
... and copy running mixed in there.
By lunchtime my desk area looked like this...
... and I felt like it was a pretty accurate representation of my morning.
Due to above mess I decide to hang out in my classroom during lunch (I have lunch duty twice a week and typically will go up every day to hang out with my co-workers... but some days there's just too much to do and a working lunch is in order). I typically eat breakfast, but on this particular day the morning just kind of got away from me so I was VERY ready for the Southwest Bowl I pretty much inhaled.
After lunch I taught two more classes and then during my afternoon planning period this cutie stopped by my window to show me her wiggly tooth...
... and the next thing I know I got this text from the receptionist :)
She has been hoping that she would FINALLY lose a tooth before she turned 7 and her wish came true! She couldn't have been more excited!
I spent the rest of the afternoon making notes for one of my classes...
... finishing my grading...
... wrapping up my sub plans for the next day...
... and I was even able to get my quiet time in after I tutored and while Mason was finishing up his speech competition practice after school.
I wrapped it up around 4:15 and felt pretty dang good about the progress I made that day considering what a hot mess it was at lunch time! When I picked up the kids Luke had already completed his homework at homework club - PRAISE HANDS!!!
When we got home I tried to grab a picture of her new toothless grin...
... the kids immediately got to work on a magnet castle thing they had been working on earlier...
... and Griffin wrote a note to remind herself to tell Dave about her tooth when he got home from work :)
We all changed clothes these three settled in on the couch to watch a new Lego Masters episode while I...
... grabbed a quick snack and filled in a couple of things on our calendar...
... got some dishes going...
... started some dinner prep...
... and started a load of laundry.
I finished up Shay's corn and potato chowder (I use 4 large potatoes)...
... and made some 7up biscuits to go along with the soup. Sliced up some strawberries and it was a quick and easy dinner.
After dinner the kids showered and played for a bit while I dealt with someone hacking into my Zulily account, ordering themselves about $400 worth of stuff and having it shipped to their house in Indiana. UGH! Such a PAIN!!! Canceled my credit card, talked to Experian, filed a fraud report and changed a few passwords...
... and then it was time to lay out uniforms for Friday, sign all the folders and play a few rounds of Tenzi.
Dave got home a little bit before 8:00 and we listened to Mason run through his Bible verses for the speech competition the next day. We skipped "reading time" on this night since I had been on the phone and computer for FOREVER trying to sort out the fraud stuff ;(
Dave was on tuck-in duty while I finished cleaning up the kitchen and when he'd been up there for a little while I went upstairs and found this...
... he's sound asleep in G's bed. EVERY. TIME.
When I went in to check on Mason - who SHOULD have been sound asleep I found him drawing in his bed instead.
We chatted for a bit and then took a few minutes to admire his starry sky...
... before I checked in on Luke and headed downstairs to work on a senior salute page for a co-workers son and wrap up my Friday Favorites blog post.
After that I switched over the laundry to the dryer, ran the vacuum through our bedroom/bathroom and wiped down the kitchen counters and table. Dave and I got some things ready for the morning (kids lunches, folders, etc.), I did 30 minutes on my exercise bike (that's a conversation for another day but just know that I hate it and don't foresee ever not hating it) and were in bed watching an episode of Last Chance U (and folding laundry) by 10:30 or so (which is actually pretty early for us!)
So there you have it! A typical Thursday at our house!
PS - this post contained affiliate links... thank you so much for reading and supporting my blog!
How does he have all those stars on his ceiling? Is it one of those projector animals? It seems like maybe you've linked to it in the past, but I can't remember. Either way, it took me back to my childhood when one of my friends had something like that! Also, your days always look so fun even though I know it's a lot of work for you. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a projector and it's so much fun! I linked it in my valentine's day gift guide post from a couple of weeks ago but I'll go back in tonight and add the link to this post as well.
DeleteI love a day in the life posts! And I love that CR Vitamin C serum!
ReplyDeleteME TOO!
DeleteAlways SO impressed by how much you accomplish in a day and how you can recall the details. Love it!! Have a great Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteThe only way I can recall it all is by snapping the photos and writing the post ASAP! :) Thanks so much for reading and following along!
DeleteYour "easier" day reads like 48 hours of non-stop activity... AND there was still a home cooked meal for dinner #goals :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing a peek into your day. Happy Tuesday.
When you have to get it done you just get it done, right?!?! Thanks so much for reading!
DeleteI have a Nordic Track bike and I watch You Tube videos while I ride (30-45 min a day). It goes so so so much faster, and I look forward to it. Plus, I feel like I'm multi tasking :)
ReplyDeleteOoooh! Good idea!!!
DeleteI love day in the life posts, so thanks for sharing yours! I would like to do one soon, but I always forget to keep taking pictures to document the actual day I plan to blog about. I'm rolling my eyes at my own self. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI've started and dropped the ball MANY a days :) so I totally get it!
DeleteWhere is your cream sweater from? And that cheetah/leopard cup??
ReplyDeleteFree People and Amazon - I'll go back and link them in the post tonight :)
DeleteFellow teacher here, and SO jealous of all that counter space behind your desk! :)
ReplyDeleteGirl. I was in this classroom for about 6 years and then had to "downsize" to a portable building for about 6 and I was SO READY to get my counters back!
DeleteO my goodness! I am exhausted I don't know how you keep that pace up everyday! I love following along:)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for following along! I think I'm just conditioned to do it :) hahaha
DeleteI would love information on the star projector too!
ReplyDeleteI'll add the link tonight!
DeleteWhat is that starry night thing? I was trying to find something like that and the one I got is a sad imitation of a starry sky. Share on Friday Faves please!?
ReplyDeleteI shared it on my Valentine's Day gift guide - but I'll add the link to this post tonight :)
DeleteI hate to be that person that asks for specifics, but what kind of Bible do you use? I've recently become obsessed with seeing others' Bibles and their doodles and notes. I take notes in mine, but mine is just a regular Bible and there is NO ROOM!
ReplyDeleteGoing further, I'd love to see a post on this! ;)
It's the NIV Journal The Word Bible and then I added the tabs :)
DeleteWhat steamer do you use? There are far too many to choose from and I'd love a good recommendation.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh! It's super old and I think that there are probably way more compact ones out there.
DeleteHi Andrea. Fellow teacher and fan of your blog from the Pittsburgh area. :) I notice that you always have the little bowls (two sizes) On the bottom of the two tiered stand in your kitchen. What do you use those for?
