Uncle Mark's Mini

Luke's Uncle Mark recently traded in his 10+ year old Camry for a sweet new mini. I think the only person who thinks it's cooler than Uncle Mark is Luke-Man:
Maybe he just thinks it's cool that Uncle Mark lets him "drive" it :)
And play with the windows...
I am sooooooo not ready for this...

Valentimes Day

Yes, I am aware that it's ValentiNes Day not ValentiMes Day, but this is how Luke has been saying it :) The night before Valentines Day I worked on getting Luke's Valentines surprise together... And putting the finishing touches on the special projects he and I had been working on for Daddy and Gibi & Haha...
I also finished up making Valentines for his class at school:
Luke LOVES to hug and has actually been reprimanded at school for hugging too much (he has been known to hug and knock a kid or two down in the process).... so I thought these "bear hug" valentines were especially appropriate this year.
On Monday morning he was up bright and early (I may or may not have made extra noise while getting ready to ensure that I'd get to see my little Valentine before I left for the day) :)
We let him crawl in our bed and gave him his surprise - he was IMMEDIATELY captivated with the Cars movie...
... and of course Hot Wheels are always a big hit.
That day at school I had my own Valentines surprise arrive - a handmade card from Luke, Sour Patch kids, a Sonic Strawberry Limeade and tulips! I completely forgot to take a picture :(
That night The Shulls had us over for small group and Luke spent the majority of the night pushing around Kensington's stroller.
At first we thought it was empty... that was until Nathan tried to take the passenger out and Luke FREAKED!
What was he carting around in that hot pink stroller?!?!?! A teeny tiny "prince man" as he later relayed to me. :)
After dinner and some serious play time (as evidenced by Luke's sweatiness and disheveled appearance) it was time to attempt a group photo...
On Tuesday Luke had his Valentine's "party" at school. I use the term "party" loosely, as both Gibi and Dave reported that the partying involved watching the kids eat a heart-shaped cookie and attempt to drink out of bottles of water. :) I had a class during the party time and opted out, but Gibi was there to capture the whole event...
Luke was very upset (and very sweaty) before the party started because he had to put away the trucks he had been playing with. It's rough being at school :)
Eating their sugar-free Valentines treats (oxymoron, I know)

31 Weeks

These are actually photos from 30 weeks... but close enough, right?!?!?! Life is crazy right now so this post is going to be in completely random bullet points... poor second child! :)
  • I had my 31 week check today and Mr. Mason was 100% healthy... heart rate of 157 and growing on schedule
  • The doctor told me that they want me to pick an induction date in case I don't have him earlier... Either the 18th, 19th or 20th of April (Mon, Tue, Wed) or the following Monday (the 25th). His due date is April 24th (Easter Sunday) and we're leaning toward Monday the 18th... I'll keep y'all posted.
  • I am addicted to Sonic Diet Strawberry Limeades... addicted. I wake up thinking about them and go to bed thinking about them. I can't stop.
  • Other food cravings include.... Cheetoh puffs, watermelon, meats of all kinds, cheese and pasta. What has no appeal to me right now? Anything and everything healthy. hehehe
  • My feet didn't ever swell while I was prego with Luke-Man, but I'm experiencing the occasional swelling episode with this little guy... the doctor said it may have to do with the fact that I'm a teacher and am on my feet pretty much from 7:15 a.m. - 3:15 pm. (and the fact that most days I do it in heels over 5" tall... today I made the mistake of wearing big wedges for my appointment)
  • Mason's "active time" is most definitely between 10:00 and 11:00 at night. As soon as I put my hand on my belly he starts moving like crazy.
  • Luke likes to "show Mason" things and will lift instruct me to lay down and lift up my shirt... then he cars, trucks, books, etc. on my belly (or drives them over my belly) to show Mason. Usually Mason obliges and kicks :)
  • We decided to "revamp" the nursery, and have been working on painting, hopefully I'll have a few pictures later this week
  • Luke is getting REALLY excited :) Every day he asks if today Mason gets to come out and he tells everyone that he's going to be a big brother - so sweet!

I can't believe that we're almost at (or past if we do the induction on the 18th) the 2-month mark - can't wait to meet our new little man!

Snowmageddon 2011

I realize that Snowmageddon 2011 is a fairly dramatic post title - but I think that missing 4 days of school, rolling blackouts and being "snowed in" for the better part of a week is pretty dramatic - at least for Texas :)
I, like everyone else, knew that snow was coming, but wasn't expecting it until Tuesday night... so when we woke up to two inches of ice on Tuesday morning it was a little bit shocking. School was cancelled and my Facebook blew up with esctatic students posting messages about how glad they were to not have to take my test that day. hahahaha! :) The ice stuck around and the next morning we woke up to this...
We hunkered down for another day inside, which for Luke and I meant lots of snacking, movies, coloring, legos, Thomas the Train and organizing :)
Pretty early on in the day Luke voiced his concern for the birds who had to live outside, so we filled a box with old cookies, crackers, bagels, etc. and set it out on the patio table.
Luke spent lots of time that day checking the window to see if the birds had shown up yet. He and Cadence became best buds and he thoroughly enjoyed wearing daddy's "snow boots"...
Something we didn't do during the snow days was brush our hair... as evidenced by Luke's sweet case of bed head...
FINALLY! A BIRD!

And the only other picture I took was a picture of a sickly lookin' Luke-Man showing off his lego house :)
The days off were restful, unexpected and fun - but I have to admit, I'm ready for Spring. Summer, No. Spring, yes.

Bye Bye Paci

When Luke was born I was completely anti-paci... no pacis allowed in the hospital, etc., etc., etc. I gave that up about two weeks after he was born in the middle of the late-afternoon meltdown(ya'll know what I'm talking about). I was home by myself, unshowered, drowning in laundry, watching him struggle to suck on his hand when I finally caved and broke out the paci that I had been given as a shower gift and held onto "just in case". There was no question about it - Luke was a paci-baby. Since then, he's had his pacis only for sleeping. They always stayed in his bed (unless of illness, etc.) and I wasn't planning on weening him off of them until it was absolutely necessary. Well - during snowmageddon a couple of weeks ago Luke came down with the world's worst cough... so bad that he threw up on us (several times) in the middle of the night as we rubbed vapor rub on his chest and tried to get him to breathe. I decided one afternoon to tell him that I called his doctor and she said that he couldn't have his pacis anymore because they were making him cough at night. He nonchalantly said, "okay mommy" and we went about our business.
He helped me bake a "bye bye paci cake" for him to enjoy as a reward when he made it through his nap without his pacis....
And, much to my surprise, he went to sleep without a single complaint and woke up asking for his cake!

The next few days/nights had their rough spots (like when he went to my parents house for lunch and a nap and threw a tantrum because "this was not HIS house and his pacis should still be in his bed!"), but we are officially paci-free! YAY!!!

Scrapped - Christmas Journey

Future Mustang

Two weeks ago (I still can't believe I lost a WHOLE WEEK! with this crazy weather), several parents threw a baby shower for me as well as another girl who works with me (who actually had her baby girl this past Wednesday). It was after school in the library and was attended by LOTS of our Junior High and High School students. The best part was getting to see how excited some of the students were about the gifts that they had picked out.
One of my 7th grade boys and his Freshman sister gave me this adorable little onesie for Mason to wear "when we come watch all their games". :) Another one of my sweet girls gave me these peace socks because she thought "they look like what you'd wear if you were a baby boy". hehehe
There was a TON of food and cupcakes and they gave each of the moms-to-be an individual cake to take home and enjoy after the shower.
Unfortunately, I totally forgot to bring my camera that day, so I'm hoping that one of the moms took pictures and will get them to me at some point. It was so sweet and thoughtful of my parents, teachers and co-workers and was a really fun afternoon.
