Nostalgic Movies - Part ONE

I'm sorry - but they just don't make movies like they used to.  I said what I said and I stand by it!  We have always loved watching "nostalgic" movies with our kids and this weekend Griffin and I watched My Girl and had me thinking that this would make such a great blog topic.  I'm going to share ten of our tried and true favorites today and then some suggestions over the next couple of weeks.

1) The Sandlot

It's just the best.  I can't say it enough.

2) National Treasure

This NEVER gets old and our entire family will sit and watch this every single time.

3) Father of the the Bride Part 1 and 2

We've had these DVDs in our car for probably 6 years and they're just on repeat any time the screen is down.  Hands down the most nostalgic movies for me.

4) The Mighty Ducks Series

NOTHING BETTER!!! All of them!

5) Remember the Titans

My boys favorite.

6) Heavyweights

My brother and I watched this movie at least 500 times growing up.  I can quote it line for line and we have so many family inside jokes from this movie.  It's absolutely ridiculous buy in my top 5 movies of all time - and I'm not sure what that says about me ;)

7) My Girl

G and I just watched this this past weekend and I forgot how much I loved it.  Did I SOB? YES. But it's just the sweetest and most tender movie.

8) League of Their Own

Another one we recently rewatched that is SO SO SO GOOD!

9) Angels in the Outfield

This is in Dave's top 5 - not my personal favorite but he can't get enough.

10) Mrs Doubtfire

An absolute classic!

Hope you found something fun to watch with your kids (or by yourself!) this weekend!

  1. I just watched FOB 1 & 2 again this week, and knowing that Diane Keaton has passed made me cry many times while watching. This list is great and definitely takes me back to my childhood! I also love rewatching the Parent Trap and It Takes Two with the Olsen twins! But you are so right, they don't make movies like they used to.

  3. Our town has a small, one screen theater that we can rent. My son's baseball team rented it out so they could watch The Sandlot on the big screen. It was the best!!

  5. I could not agree with you more. They do not make movies or TV shows for a family audience anymore. It makes me sad. 😔. I have never seen Heavyweights. I will have to check it out.
