Martha's Vineyard

On Thursday the plan was to get up early, drive over to the ferry and spend the morning and afternoon on Martha's Vineyard.  On Wednesday night when we were talking about it it felt like I may have been the only one excited about it (hahaha) and when I looked a little more closely at my plans it did feel like A LOT of work/travel to check out a cute little town, go see some cliffs, etc.  SOOOO we pivoted and it ended up being an awesome day - and I told Dave that he and I would check off Martha's Vineyard at a later date ;)

We loaded up in the car and drove about an hour all the way up to the Highland Lighthouse.  It was cool to go check out the lower cape and was the only lighthouse I could find that you could actually go up into.

I MEAN!!!

We walked up to the visitor's center, bought tickets for the tour and pretty quickly were taken up.

It was SO COOL!!!  We learned a lot about how they moved the lighthouse and it was a really fun experience to get to go up to the top.   I will say - it was HOT up in there! hahaha. There was zero airflow and it kind of felt like we were baking.  Griffin and I also made really poor footwear choices for climbing like 70 something ladder stairs. WHOOPS!!!

The views made up for it and I'd absolutely do it again!

We made our way back down...

... and then walked to the lookout where the lighthouse used to sit.

Could Martha's Vineyard do THIS?!?!! (actually it probably could have - hahaha)

We walked back to the car and hit up the museum on the way back but opted out of purchasing tickets in favor of heading down the cape a bit.

En route to our next destination we saw this MG on the side of the road and had to stop and take a pic for my dad who OFTEN talks about these cars ;)

I had several people recommend Moby Dick's and so we decided to check that out for lunch.

It was CUUUUTE!

The clam chowder was DELISH!!!  (and yes - I'm saying it was delish and yes - I'm the one who doesn't like seafood BUT I'm always willing to try stuff because I don't want to miss out)

I know that for those of y'all in the northeast that these may be just par for the course for y'all but I couldn't get over how adorable they were!!!

LOVE!!!

We drove down to Chatham where I'd heard that if you check out the fishing dock in the afternoon you can often see seals coming in with the fishing boats and hanging around as they unload.

Apparently we got there right at the perfect time because the boats were unloading and we got to see SO MANY SEALS!!!

Before you think it was just darling seals swimming around you need to know that this was a crazy experience that my have scarred me for life.  There were multiple boats all LOADED DOWN with skate... a fish that looks JUST like a stingray and we watched the workers stab them with hooks, throw them into these huge bins and then get loaded onto trucks. I can still hear the slurping/sucking sounds that they made.  It was an educational experience to say the least!

We checked out Chatham Beach...

... and then headed over to Main Street where we got to see the Art in the Park Exhibit...

... and then we stopped in to Buffy's for ice cream.

THIS WAS LIFE CHANGING!!! And I don't say that lightly!  It was so so so good! SO MANY ACTUAL COOKIE DOUGH CHUNKS! I'm still thinking about it!

Mason had a milkshake which he sucked down and G and Luke both got ice cream bars which were next level.

We strolled a bit downtown...

... and then headed back to our house in Sandwich where we quickly got changed and headed to the beach.

The water was chilly but the weather was PERFECTION and we hung out several hours until sunset.

We loaded up and walked the boardwalk and then back to the house.  It was PERFECTION!!!

Pizza for dinner was the perfect way to end the day!

HAPPY Wednesday, friends!
