Three Things - Back to School Edition

Yesterday was the first day of school and I'm pleased to report that everyone had a great day!   Per tradition, I'm sharing three things about everyone to kick off the year ;)

- STUDENT GOVT -

Luke was elected onto Student Government again this year and has had a blast this summer working with friends on painting senior spots and a few other projects.  Fun to see him put himself out there a bit and have his peers recognize his quiet leadership qualities.

- DUAL CREDIT -

Okay high school moms... we're delving into the world of dual credit and MY WORD. hahaha I'm so grateful he has the opportunity but between the registration, textbook buying and other forms/fees your girl is tired ;) hahaha JK - Luke has handled pretty much everything but I can't believe he's working on college credits!

- NEW CHAPTER -

I realized the other day that I've probably driven him to school for the last time.  Sigh.  He drove himself (and Mason) yestserday and it was surreal to only have one kid in the car.

- STEM -

Mason made it into our STEM science class this year which means he'll get to go on the Big Bend camping trip with me ;)  WE BOTH CAN'T WAIT!!!

- XC -

At the end of last season Mason wasn't sure if he was going to continue with cross country, but after a summer of morning runs and strength and conditioning with a speed coach he's ALL IN!  We're big believers in the lessons that cross country teaches kids and are so excited he decided to keep with it.

- SHARED CAMPUS -

G and Mason are on the same part of campus this year and there are mixed emotions about his little sister being part of middle school with him.  I feel like they'll settle in quickly but I definitely think Mason enjoyed being the ONLY McAnally in middle school last year (those middle child feelings coming in HOT!)

- CHEER -

After years and years of my students pulling her down onto the sidelines and being part of our elementary cheer program our girl is FINALLY a "real MCA cheerleader" ;) So far she is LOVING it and we can't wait to watch her cheer at games in a few weeks!

- GUY TEACHERS -

One of the most exciting part of middle school for G? Having GUY teachers!  She's only had female teachers for all of elementary so having a male Bible and History teacher is brand new territory and, funny enough, it's something that all the kids are really excited about.  One of those things I never think about but I can totally see why it' a big deal to them!

- ALL THE FEELS -

You know that Winnie the Pooh quote "How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard" quote? That has been G's motto the past few weeks.  She hasn't been super nervous about going into middle school but has been sad about elementary school being over.  Mason had a lot of these same feelings and MAN am I grateful for such a sweet lower school experience. She said the other night, "I just feel like I'm growing up so fast" and I'm not sure I've ever felt something so deep! hahaha. Needless to say, we're feeling all the feels in our house right now ;)

- YEAR 19 -

This is my nineteenth year in the classroom and I seriously can't believe it.  I wish I had something more eloquent to say about it but that's really it. hahaha. I. Can't. Believe. It.

- BORROWED TIME -

Frank was supposed to have his surgery to get neutered a couple of weeks ago but had some elevated liver enzymes (probably nothing concerning - it just happens sometimes!) so we've been joking that he's living on borrowed time.  We're crossing our fingers that he can have that done this month and MAYBE turn the corner with some of his house training issues.  PLEASE LORD!!!

- ON THE MEND -

It's officially been over a month since Rosie was hospitalized with her GI issues and we feel like she's fully recovered.  It was a rough go there for a bit, but she's eating normally and all systems seem to be working and we are SO RELIEVED!!!

  1. I just KNOW it's going to be an amazing year for you and your kiddos. I CANNOT believe you are done with elementary school. Excuse me while I cry a bit.

  3. Aw, this kiddos are going to have the best year! All those fees and paperwork are worth it down the road; I am loving that Alec is testing out of many of his college classes and got credit for quite a few he took in high school!
