Seven Questions - Pet Edition

Today I'm answering seven of your pet-related questions!  If you have follow-up questions feel free to drop them in the comments at the end of this post ;)
Yes! We have a couple of great house/pet sitters who stay at our house and/or pop in and out during the day to feed animals, go on walks and chill on the couch while rubbing Rosie's ears ;) We started this when we got Rosie because she is SO attached to people and I was certain that if we kenneled her somewhere her heart might ACTUALLY break. My mom thinks I'm crazy, but I think it's a certainty.  We also love having someone keeping an eye on the house while we're gone, so it's just added peace of mined.

We hired a DARLING boy who is homeschooled to come over around noon (Dave leaves around 8:30) and take Frank out, play with him for a bit, refill his water and then put him back in his crate.  I found him through our neighborhood Facebook page, but it turns out I used to teach him!  He's been WONDERFUL with Frank and it's provided him with some extra cash before he heads into summer.  Dave is home on Mondays and Fridays so it's only Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and we're hopeful that after summer break Frank will be able to stay in his "play pen" area out in our family room instead of his smaller crate (the crate will be in the pen area, but he'll have a bit more space and will be able to interact with Rosie and Jack Bauer) and won't need that afternoon potty break - but we'll play that by ear ;)

We got Frank from Ross' Desert Doxies in Stillwell, OK.

They were super communicative and great to work with.  They delivered Frank (along with another puppy) and sent a ton of pics, videos, info beforehand.

YES!!! While Rosie is more into people than other dogs she LOVES Frank despite him being super playful and all up in her business. hahahaha. We keep a super close eye on their play due to their size difference but Rosie seems to know how to be extra gentle (and patient) with him and I'm excited to see them just get closer and closer.

Question of the hour! hahaha. While Rosie was kind of "Luke's" dog and Mason got Frank for his birthday all of our animals are family animals.  That said, I'm sure at some point we'll be in the market for another dog and she'll have some strong opinions on that.  I will say that she's wanted a gerbil/hamster/hedgehog for YEARS but I just can't do rodents in my house.  I had a weak moment a few years ago at the pet store and then we saw one that LITERALLY had some sort of prolapse and I was out again. hahaha

I really don't see us NOT having an English Mastiff at home after having such a great experience with Rosie so I'm sure at some point we'll add another one to our menagerie.

I grew up with dogs and a cat as indoor pets and Dave grew up with outdoor dogs.  I would say that I'm definitely more of a pet person - Dave's family always had dogs outside, but they weren't always named, were more for function (he lived in the country and they were for property protection) and were less pets than animals (I really hope that makes sense).  Dave is way more practical and I'm much more emotional about most things so he can be a bit of a hard well when it comes to additional animals BUT we're both glad that our kids are getting to experience having and caring for a variety of animals and all of our animals really do love Dave the most ;)

Well... we thought we knew what we were doing but Frank is proving to be just as stubborn as everyone told me daschunds are and we're on the struggle bus.

He's crated when we're not home and also at night (after falling asleep with Griffin in her bed most nights) and so we feel good about that but the house training has been a battle and I feel like it's two steps forward and 5 steps back. hahahaha. Rosie and Jack Bauer were both VERY easy to house train so this is new territory for us.  This is my last full week of school so I'm telling myself that we'll get it under control when we're all home for summer.  Pray for Frank ;) hahahaha

HAPPY Tuesday, friends!!

  1. Girl... I feel your pain! We have a Bichon/Spaniel mix, and he's being so stubborn. I have shampooed our rugs and carpets. I have done all the training "tricks", but he's still having accidents. I have heard that girl dogs are easier, and our other girl dog was so much easier. Keep posting any tips!
