Weekend Recap - Formal and Fiesta

What a FUN weekend we had around here!  The middle school semi-formal was on Friday night and it was an event I was SO GLAD to bring back this year.  We haven't been able to have this party for the past two years and it's been so missed!

Y'all.  LOOK HOW HANDSOME!!!!

The dress code is "semi-formal" which for guys is anything from dress pants and a button down to suits.  It's pretty much whatever they're comfortable with and I was a little bit shocked that Luke wanted to wear a suit AND picked this color but I'm so glad he did!

Dave and I were able to take Luke over to his friends house where they had pizza and snacks for the kids, parents and siblings and it was a really sweet time.  I was able to stay for about 20 minutes before I had to take off to go meet the DJ and photobooth vendor at the venue (I'm in charge of middle school student activities) and Dave, Mason and G hung out for a little bit longer before grabbing the snacks and waters and heading up to the venue before it started.

The space was GORGEOUS and so I kept the decor minimal and focused on creating a fun, party atmosphere for the kids.

These two had to test out the photo booth and check out the view before heading home with Dave for the night ;)

Thankful for mom friends who brought Luke and his friends to the dance and sent me group pics...

.... and for this kid taking a quick selfie with me when he got there.  Honestly, I don't think I even made eye contact with him for the next three hours ;) hahaha  There's a fine balance between being in charge of the event and being a mom and my strategy has always been to take his lead - I'm sure I'll be relearning and renavigating things as Mason and G get to middle school but with Luke it's been really easy on both of us.

Afterward he had a friend spend the night and it was fun to listen to them tell Dave all about it over grilled cheese after midnight.

Another highlight of the weekend was hosting our annual Family Fiesta! With all three kids having birthdays so close together during one of the busiest times of the year we started having one "family" party back in 2015 for grandparents and aunts, uncles and cousins to come hang out and celebrate without the obligation of trying to attend 3 separate parties where the kids are all preoccupied with friends.  It's one of our favorite nights of the year and is a tradition I think we'll continue for years and years to come.

We keep things pretty simple for decor.  Thankfully this is a "theme" that's easy to source items for and I picked up these plates, napkins...

... balloons...

... and flags all at Party City on Saturday morning.

I added a fun wrapping paper table runner and put together some simple jars of flowers using Trader Joes stems and that was essentially it!

We picked up food from Anamias  (if you're local the catering was AWESOME!)...

We ate, hung out, sang happy birthday, chased babies around and had THE BEST TIME with our families.

PS - do not buy these sparkler candles from Target - they don't work! They took FOREVER to light and were just plain not great.

HAPPY Monday, friends!!!
