Three Things - 1st day of school

Y'all! The first day of school has come and gone and I seriously can't believe it! It's going to be an awesome year!

- THREE FEET -
Luke obviously hasn't grown three feet since May but he grew a TON this summer and is starting 7th grade off ALMOST as tall as me.  It's blowing my mind but is so cool!

- MARCHING BAND -
Luke decided to stick with band as his Fine Art credit and he'll get to do some marching band at varsity football games this year!  He's SO EXCITED and we can't wait to attend games as parents of a band kid!

- PLANNER LOVE? -
In 6th grade Luke had to keep a planner - it was a weekly grade in one of his classes and everyone had to do it.  This year he's on his own in terms of a planner and while he's not sure he'll use it "all the time" he picked the same one I loved to use (before I switched to Apple calendar out of necessity) and it made my heart weirdly happy :)  hahaha

- BIG DOG -
Fifth graders at our school are "big dogs" (disciples of God) and they do some really cool small groups and leadership things on the lower school campus that I am so excited for him to get to do.  Luke's 5th grade year was cut short due to quarantine so I'm looking forward to watching Mason get to do all the Big Dog things!

- NEW TEACHERS -
There are three sections of 5th grade this year and two of the teachers are new to our school (one of the teachers moved up to middle school and they added a third section) and Mason was pretty nervous about having a teacher that he didn't know and that "didn't already know him" but all his nerves were put at ease after a WONDERFUL first day and we can't wait to get to know his new teachers!

- BESTIES -
Mason's bestie since Pre-K is in the same homeroom as him and THEY ARE PUMPED!  They were together last year and are the cutest little duo and I'm so glad that they're together their last year of elementary school.

- TWO TEACHERS -
Griffin is in 3rd grade this year and it's her first year to have two teachers!  They rotate between the two teachers throughout the day and she's SO EXCITED.

- LUNCH FUN -
Third grade is also when they get to pick their seats at lunch and she is already talking about it :) I believe that they also can buy some a la carte items from the lunch line which she is for sure looking forward to.

- HEADBANDS -
Griffin told me that headbands are going to be "her thing" this year.  I'm not sure where this idea came from but it's cracking me up and I'm all about it.

- TEACHER MOM -
Well... it's here.  The day that has been "someday" is NOW and I have Luke in my class!  It's only been a day but so far so good - he told me it was "normal" and that he liked my class so I'm counting that as a win.  I'm sure I'll have more thoughts at some point but for now that's all I've got!

- PET SWAP -
Chips and Queso are LOVING life outside in the backyard so they're going to stay at home this year but Gary Patterson (Mason's bearded dragon) has moved into my classroom and my students are PUMPED!  She's super sweet and laid back so after we let her adjust to classroom life for a while they'll be able to take her out during homework time and let her sit on their shoulder while they work.

- ROUTINE -
I LOOOOVE the relaxed pace of summer and the sleeping in but I have to admit that getting back into a routine has felt GOOD as well.  Now, talk to me once sports start back but for now I'm loving it!
