Day in the Life: Christmas Break Edition

Happy Thursday, friends!  I thought it would be fun today to share a "day in the life" Christmas Break edition!  This was Monday of last week and Dave was at home so it was a super productive family day - woo hoo!

I don't set an alarm during break but am typically up around 8:00.  Apparently on Monday I was up at exactly 8!

And this was the cute face waiting for me when I was up :)

Since we didn't have anywhere to be that morning I decided to do  my favorite hair mask....

The directions say to leave it on for 20 minutes or so but if I have the time I like to leave it on for a few hours.  So on this day I got my hair wet, towel dried it and then left the mask on while my hair air dried.

We've been doing all the immune support/building things around here including this handful of supplements every morning.  Can I still hashtag things 2020??!?!  If so #2020 ;)

Mason was up and at 'em so he helped me get a german pancake in the oven...

... I overbaked it a bit but we still all got to sit down for breakfast together so I considered it a win.

After breakfast the kids played (Legos, maileg mice, etc.) and Dave went outside to get a few yard things done and I started "tidying"... you know what I'm talking about... just putting away those little piles that tend to accumulate.  I threw in a load of laundry and windexed and dusted a bit while listening to this...

Griffin hopped in the bath...

... Dave's Christmas present arrived...

... Gary Patterson ate...

(PS - these little worms come in almost like a sawdust material - Gary Patterson prefers to eat outside of her enclosure so part of feeding her is vacuuming after.  Random, I know)

I got in the shower to wash out the mask...

... and the kids worked on a few chores.

I was in full on cleaning mode at this point so I decided to listen to my audiobook and tackle the kids "uniform closet"...

When you have three kids who all wear uniforms you can accumulate quite the collection of spirit wear, outerwear, hand me downs, etc.  We did a big ol' purge and made piles to donate to the school's resale shop and a few piles to pass along to friends with little ones.

The biggest dilemma I've run into is that we have DOZENS of spirit shirts that I know I'll want to have made into a quilt - but what do I do with them in the meantime?

After all the sorting and trying on and what not it was time for lunch and grilled cheese outside was calling our names...

After lunch we played outside for a bit and then the kids and Dave took Rosie for a walk while I finished getting ready.  This is what I wear on my face daily (sheer renewal cream over the  vitamin c treatment complex)...

... and my Walmart delivery showed up!  #bless

(PS - all of this is for the McKinney Little Free Pantry - if you made a donation after my post a couple of weeks ago THANK YOU!!!  I was able to get lots of snacks, fruit and some other items they were in need of!)

I decided to paint my nails and do my Bible recap listening and reading for the day...

... and then we played a few rounds of monopoly deal before having some reading time.

The keys to reading time are cozy blankets...

... and good music...

Except on this day the blankets and music were too good because Griffin...

... Jack Bauer...

... and Rosie all passed out ;)

We read for about an hour and then the boys helped me take down the tree in our bedroom.  I said I was going to leave it up for a bit longer but decided that this was the day to pack it all up - it felt SO GOOD!

I do love this tree so much!

DONE!

We almost forgot that Griffin's dance classes started back this week (we weren't back in school) so when we had to wake her up to get her ready it was a bit of a struggle.  That's one sleepy little ballerina.

Before dance Griffin and I stopped into Tuesday Morning because I had seen these dough bowl things there a few weeks ago and was really hoping they still had them because I have some zinc hearts and wanted to display them in one and we were in luck!

Arrived at dance and a friend brought Starbucks! BLESS!!!!

While I was chatting and Griffin was dancing the boys headed to Mason's basketball practice.  I try to make sure we have leftovers ready for Monday night since it's a busy one and the boys ate leftover ravioli soup before going to practice.

Home!

I got Griffin situated with dinner (and Mighty Ducks 3 since she fell asleep during the movie the night before and her brothers had already finished it) and then set about the business of making a huge mess while trying to arrange some decorative stuff :)  I also took laundry out of the dryer, wiped down the kitchen counters and swept a bit.

Mason came home from practice with the SWEETEST GIFT EVER from his best friend...

... and while Griffin finished up her movie on the couch and the boys all took showers I made a salad and sat down to do some blog work and start Bridgerton.

Griffin was WIPED OUT and she fell asleep on the couch and the boys were playing poker so I decided to start a puzzle since they have been in the middle of a weeks long game ;)

Boys in bed, edges done and I made myself go to bed otherwise I wouldn't be able to pull myself away :)

I use the cleansing balm and retinol products every night but added in the micro mineral scrub and extreme recovery cream as well as the sugar lip scrub.

Night night!  Off to watch an episode of The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and read a few chapters.

And there you go! This particular day was a bit busier than most since the kids had dance and basketball but is still pretty representative of our unscheduled days at home.

HAPPY Thursday, friends!

  2. OMG we taught our kids poker at a young age too and it’s now our favorite family game when we are all together! We used to give the winner giant candy bars, but now that they are 17,18 & 20 they prefer us Venmo their winnings lol (we give each kid $10 in chips to play with) it’s seriously so fun. Glad we aren’t the only ones who have done that hahaha

  5. I know what you mean with those worms. I feed them to my chickens as treats. They LOVE them and the worms don't even gross me out anymore. 😂 #crazychickenlady

  9. What a fun post! Curious about Griffin’s dance bag. Where’s it from? Do you recommend it? Looks like the sturdy sides would make it easier for a kid to locate her stuff inside. Do you find that to be the case?

  10. Someone shared that they stored all the shirts, etc that they wanted to save in one of those zip bags that quilts/duvets come in. Each child had their own. You can also buy them new on Amazon. I thought it was a great idea!

  11. Love this post!! What about those bags you can suck the air out of for all your tshirts? I don't know the name but those seem like they would work well and save space! Also, your pic of the nail polish reminded me to ask you if you've heard of Olive & June nail polish?? I discovered them this past summer and love them. For those of us who still do our nails at home, this is a game changer. Depending on colors I want, I still use my trusted Essie and OPI polishes with the Seche Vite finish. Anyway, just thought I would mention them. :)
