Well, I've hemmed and hawed and gone back and forth about posting "normally" during this very not normal time and have decided to keep on keeping on and play it by ear. I think we're all searching for some normalcy and sharing on here is that for me. It's also not a secret that blogging isn't solely a hobby but also a source of income for our family and with the HUGE impact that this pandemic is having on the food/bev and events industry (Dave's profession) this decision feels right for right now. So if you're looking for me I'll be here :)
Spring Break 2020 was SUCH a great one for our family! Dave was home with us a lot and even though we went into the week with zero plans we ended up doing a lot and having a blast.
We had a game night with friends which included fort-building...
... and burrito throwing :)
I took Griffin to the American Girl store for the first time and it was something I'll never forget! "Mom! Look at this! Oh, wait! Look over here! MOM!" Seriously sweet.
The uncontrollable smiling started the moment we walked in :)
Matching glasses!
We had another game night (can you tell we're game people who love other game people?!?!) that included night swimming...
... and Luke took his golf lessons on the road to Top Golf :)
We visited The Yard downtown...
... where Dave and I had THE BEST smothered waffle fries of all time. That's brisket and queso fresco, friends.
And we took the kids to their first escape room...
Luke LOVED IT - like he immediately wanted to go do a second room and the other two really enjoyed it but probably would have liked it more if there hadn't been a realistic alien zipped into a BODY BAG on an autopsy table. Also, said alien was holding a blacklight flashlight that when we shined it on the walls revealed messages like "you're not alone". Also, this was the room labeled "kid friendly" hahaha Not sure who made that call! The room was called "antidote" and was essentially about a deadly virus being released into the world and while it wasn't an issue at the time you better believe it raised some nervous bedtime questions later in the week/weekend. Sigh.
We baked cookies...
... and read A LOT...
... and visited Cathy's Critters with friends. After I parked forever away and we trudged through a ton of mud I wasn't super excited about the day but when we looked across the lake and could SEE THE GIANT SNAKE I knew it was going to be a good time :)
Mason is my reptile guy and while they're not "my" thing they're "his" and I try to be supportive and not totally creeped out.
There weren't just 14-ft snakes out in the grass, there were also baby goats...
... giant dogs...
... and parrots hanging around.
Seriously - the coolest thing about Cathy's Critters is the menagerie of animals all just hanging out together. Giant tortoises with chickens standing on them next to pot bellied pigs and a kangaroo. Seriously.
They rehabilitate and rescue animals and have a ton that kids can hold...
including hedgehogs...
... chinchillas...
... and ferrets. Rodents aren't my thing either ;) hahaha #putdownthegiantmouse
This kid handled a ball python like it was nothing...
... and Griffin is 100% asking for a chinchilla for her birthday.
Oh! And let's not forget about the field of spotted llamas :)
When we come out of quarantine we should all meet up at Cathy's Critters because it's a hoot, y'all.
But the best part of Spring Break was that we did a whole lot of this...
Hoping that your Spring Break is/was fun even if it looks/looked different than expected.
Happy Tuesday, friends!
So glad you are here like "normal". Thank you!
