North Pole Breakfast 2019

Our elf, Buddy, made his annual return to our house Saturday morning and brought a special North Pole Breakfast with him.  We started this tradition in 2012 and it's one of my most favorite mornings of the whole year.  I did red and green for the first 6 years and then last year I mixed it up with a whole bunch of colored bottle brush trees.  My intention was to go back to red and green this year but then I was at Hobby Lobby and everything was half price and I ended up with supplies to make it a winter wonderland-ish theme instead :)

I set all the decor up after the kids went to bed on Friday night and typically Dave and I will wake up early and set out the food before they get up.  One year they were up before we were and so we played it off as "oh look!  Buddy left all the food for us - he must have been running late!  Mommy and Daddy will set it all out for y'all" ;)   But this year Dave and I woke up late, set everything out and then had to wait close to an hour for the kids to even wake up! hahaha

I used the same garland and lights that I always do and then just added in some white deco mesh, a few iridescent glass ornaments, disco ball ornaments, faux snow balls and assorted picks.  I used glitter scrapbook paper for the placemats and some faux snow "fluff" to finish the look.

The little tree picks and iridescent ornaments were my favorites.

I picked up these little place card holders in the Target Dollar spot and they were kind of my inspiration for the snowy theme.

We kept the food pretty basic.  It wouldn't be a North Pole Breakfast without the little mini donuts (the little picks I reuse every year) and then we did biscuits (the frozen Mary B's brand are the best) and some bacon and sausage.  A few strawberries and blueberries and chocolate milk finished up the spread.

Buddy always brings the kids an ornament as well and this year he shopped at Urban Outfitters for these...

The kids FIIIIINALLY woke up - Griffin came downstairs first, gasped and then immediately ran upstairs to get her brothers.  Luke is "in on it" now (see my video HERE), but I still keep details and things like this a surprise for him too because it's FUN!  Also, when he learned the truth about Santa we talked about how part of "being a Santa" is helping keep the magic alive for others.

First order of business... pajamas :)

I picked these up on clearance at Hanna Andersson at the end of last Christmas and, as always, they're such great quality and I know the kids will outgrow them before they wear out.  The boys were exceptionally happy about the Star Wars print ;)

Buddy even brought a pair of pjs for Jack Bauer!

Next... the note!

... and then they opened their presents.  This year they each got an advent calendar.

I have way too much fun putting this together every year.  It's a creative outlet and I love the "magic" of it all.  I know that our years of this are probably numbered and so I'm soaking it all up while I can.

I have had SO MUCH FUN this weekend with so many of y'all tagging me in your North Pole breakfast photos - it absolutely warms my heart that I've inspired some Christmas magic.  Seriously - the absolute best.  If decorating isn't your thing or your budget doesn't allow for new pjs or WHATEVER... just go with what you can and what you have.  Put down some twinkle lights and get a package of powdered donuts and watch your kids faces light up.

Happy Monday and Happy DECEMBER, friends!!!

  1. I can tell you as a mom a bit farther down the road that even teens enjoy those childhood traditions ~ your kids might *know* but they'll want that special breakfast!

  4. We've never done Elf, but this is still one of my favorite posts you do all year. I love seeing other families' traditions and what they do to make the season special for their kiddos. You always knock this one out of the park!

  6. We don't do the Elf on the Shelf, but I used your north pole breakfast as my inspiration for a Grinch themed breakfast this weekend. My fifteen year old loved it *almost* as much as my six year old.

  10. I love this tradition! I have an 18 month old now, but as soon as she's big enough we will definitely start doing this. Such a fun way to start the Christmas season. Have a good day!

  11. Hi Andrea! The link to the video (where you share about talking to Luke) doesn't seem to be working. It could just be my computer. I would love to hear your wisdom on this topic! Thank you so much for taking the time to share!
