Creepy Calzones

I'm not in Fall/Halloween mode YET but I saw this recipe in one of those Facebook videos, tried it for myself and wanted to share now in case you wanted to try it you have a chance to order  the skull pan :)  Yes... skull pan. hahaha  That's a sentence I didn't anticipate ever typing!

Here's What You'll Need...
- Refrigerated pizza dough
- Shredded mozzarella cheese
- Grated Parmesan Cheese
- Pepperoni/Sausage/Diced ham/pineapple/onion... whatever you want to put into your pizzas
- Pizza sauce

Step One - Grease the pan using Pam spray.   Cut the pizza dough into six pieces.  I used a rolling pin to kind of stretch it out a bit and then draped it into the skulls, pressing it into the bottom a bit.

Step Two - Fill with a spoonful of pizza sauce, cheeses, toppings, etc.

Step Three - Drape the excess dough over the top to "close" the skill, pinch together the seams.  Don't worry if your skull isn't filled all the way to the top.  The dough is going to fluff up as it bakes and I promise it'll be fine.

Step Four - Bake at 375 degrees for 18-20 minutes or until the crust looks cooked through and golden  brown.

YOU GUYS!!!

I was SHOCKED at how good they turned out!  They popped right out of the pan and my kids literally squealed.

I served theirs with a smoothie (banana, strawberries, yogurt and about 3 cups of raw spinach in each... you can find my basic recipe/method  HERE)...

The best part was opening them up... they got a HUGE kick out of it and though it was so cool.

Dave and I had ours with a really simple salad (some shredded kale, cabbage, etc. topped with tomatoes and carrots) and I thought it would be fun and kind of creepy to put the dressing (Greek Goddess from Trader Joe's) in a syringe (NEW hahaha from CVS).

I REALLY wanted one of the big syringes, but my CVS only had this size which worked just fine.  I think that this would be so fun for a Halloween party - you could have all different syringes filled with different dressings laid out on a plate.

So let me talk about  this skull pan for a minute - as things have needed to be replaced I've gradually been switching out my bakeware to Nordic Ware and I can't say enough great things.  I have several baking sheets,  a bundt pan, loaf pans and now  this skull pan and have never had anything stick or bake unevenly.  They're hefty, easy to clean and I love their products so much.

Happy Thursday, friends!!!

  1. Maybe link the Facebook video so they get the credit? Same courtesy you’d want if someone got an idea from you! :)

  2. I have always resisted themed pans as I didn't think they could be used for anything other than cake, which we don't eat a lot of. But a calzone?! what a fabulous idea. I'm going to The Bay (#Canada) at lunch and I'll see if I can find one.

  4. Yours look much better then the linked Facebook ones! And I will add this, I often think when I see soooooo many of the fun and fab things you do for/with your kids, that as adults they will look back and have such wonderful memories of their childhood days. Indeed they WILL!

  7. Did they come out of the pan easy while the pan was hot or did you let cool? I usually fail at getting stuff to come out of a pan with shapes like this. Yours came out perfect!
