Weekend Top 10

I'm starting my recap out on Friday because it was possibly the sweetest day ever.  I turned 35 on Friday and woke up to a cat on my bed (who was supposed to be outside) and a Chick-Fil-A chicken biscuit.  Apparently Mason told Dave on Thursday night that he wanted to get up REEEEALLY early and get me a chicken biscuit and thats exactly what he did!  They were AT Chick-Fil-A at 6 a.m., y'all!  I love what a sweet thought and gesture that was and double love that Dave helped him get it done.  Dave is a BIG acts of service guy and I think that Mason is following in his footsteps.  A few homemade cards (and a poster) rounded out a perfect morning.

The rest of Friday wasn't too shabby either.  A GORGEOUS flower delivery, cupcakes from sweet friends and a 2-ft wide pizza.  Griffin also had her first soccer practice and her brothers had a blast playing in the tires (football uses them for workouts) ;)  We hung out, played games and everyone crashed pretty early leaving me with a cupcake and a full DVR in bed by 9.  PERFECTION!

Griffin had her first soccer game EVER Saturday morning and despite the freezing temperature (it hovered right around 32 degrees the whole time - complete with rain) she loved every single second of it.  This was her first time to play a sport and Dave and I were commenting after that we foresee many years of sports ahead of us with her.  She "got it", was aggressive and played the whole game with a smile on her face.  Is there anything better than watching your kids do what they love???  Her brothers were troopers and cheered for her while playing Go Fish :)

Speaking of kids doing things that they love - Mason had his first flag football game of the season Saturday afternoon and it was great seeing him back out on the field.  His team has been together for several seasons now and it's been so much fun watching their team grow.

After football, Dave headed in to work and the kids and I headed home, settled in and started our "Kon-Mari-ing" project upstairs.  I feel like Mason has more clothes than anyone because he gets a lot of things from Luke as well as a few friends who are a size up from him and his closet was PACKED.  He tried everything on, he picked out his favorite pieces and then we re-hung and folded.  We then repeated in Griffin and Luke's rooms and while it was a BIG project I'm hoping the streamlining will be more efficient in the long run.

We ended Saturday with a movie/popcorn night upstairs and two out of three kids fell asleep before the movie was over.  PRAISE HANDS!

Sunday we did church, then home for a quick lunch and then we went to a bowling/arcade party for a friend from school.  We bowled, played laser tag, laughed SO HARD at the boys doing a virtual reality game and Griffin climbed all the way to the top of the rock wall.  Griffin and Dave went straight from that birthday to another birthday party - this time at a gymnastics gym where I have no clue how any of the kids had any energy left to play after the first party :)

PS - if it seems like my kids go to a lot of birthday parties it's because (for us) it's part of being at a small school and being part of that small school "community".

While Dave and Griffin were at the gymnastics party I took Luke and Mason to Play Street for an engineering event.  This was my boys FAVORITE Play Street event ever (which says A LOT!)

They had all kinds of cardboard pieces, spools, hot glue, regular glue, duct tape, and on and on and on along with these CanDo sets and just let the kids create.  (the CanDo sets are packages that include a saw that cuts cardboard (but not skin), a screwdriver and a bunch of screws all designed for building things out of cardboard.  I was SO IMPRESSED with them and have already ordered several to give as birthday gifts).

The boys created pretty much non-stop for two hours and have already started drawing out plans for other things that they want to make when we get a few boxes.

Yesterday was such a welcome day off.  We spent the morning at home finishing up a few organizational projects and then went and saw The Lego Movie 2.  The movie was super fun and just as clever as the other Lego movies but the highlight for me was the Southwest bowl :) hahaha

If you have a Moviehouse and Eatery near you go find something to watch and order it STAT!

And I'm laughing so hard at that picture on the right... when your mom tries to take a selfie where everyone is looking directly into the sun.  ;)

Since Dave was working Friday and Saturday nights and then we had #alltheparties on Sunday we had carrot cake and the birthday song to wrap up the festivities and y'all... I tried to get a video of it to include in our February home movie and the dang sparkler candle was in front of my face the entire time :)  I'm not sure I've ever laughed as hard as I did while watching that video play back.  That single sparkler candle also set off our smoke alarm which was a whole other fiasco.  Motherhood in a nutshell, am I right?

It was a jam-packed and fun-filled weekend and I couldn't have asked for a better way to ring in thirty five.  Thank you so much for all of the birthday wishes and Happy Tuesday, friends!!!

  1. I'm so glad you had a Happy Birthday Day, & Mason getting up so early to get you a special breakfast--so sweet! Congratulations to Griffin on playing soccer-she's growing up so fast--don't they all? Cleaning out closets/kids rooms--not fun, but very rewarding & the consequences feel so good--right?!! Glad you had a super good weekend for your 35th!

  2. What a WONDERFUL weekend!!! I love the sweet chicken biscuit story, and those flowers are gorgeous. If you'd like me to drop boxes off at your house, JUST LET ME KNOW. I've got boxes everywhere and Chris's least favorite job is breaking them down for the recycle bin! :)
