Playroom Update

For about a year we've been talking about what to do with our playroom/loft space as our kids have gotten bigger and we didn't really need the play table and toy kitchen and such.  We knew we wanted it to be a little bit more "loungey" for watching movies, playing games and hanging out.  I found a couch over Christmas break, made a few other little changes and here we are!

Obviously, the biggest change we made was this couch...

... I'm not going to lie... I was GIDDY when I found this! The room is kind of an awkward configuration and I had been eyeing this couch online for months and so when it popped up on Facebook Marketplace (for REAL!) for a total steal I jumped on it.  It looks brand new and since it was going upstairs for the kids it was a no brainer.  Total score.

It was literally the exact couch I'd had my eye on.  EXACT.  It's super deep, extra long and we love the chaise lounge part.  It's going to be perfect for years and years of kids lounging, sleepovers and play.

The side table was a Homegoods find (as was the lamp years ago)...

... and I love having the kids artwork framed.

Over the past few weeks more and more blankets have found their way out here :)  The pillows were eBay finds as well as Anthropologie.

We've had this coffee table since college and the three metal bins underneath have markers, blank paper and other activity books.

The galvanized tray has is where we keep the coasters and remotes when they're not being used...

... and I switched out the knobs on the tv stand.

We got this bookcase from Target last Fall and it's surprisingly sturdy and we still love it.

"To Maine and Back" is something that we have said as a family since Luke was little and would say he loved us "to Maine and back" instead of to the moon and back :) Most of the other "decor" are books that we love and that we read often.

This was my favorite book as a kid and my mom found it on eBay when I first had Luke so I could read him my favorite book.  Y'all.  How sweet is that???  The book has been out of print for years and it was the most thoughtful gift.

So there you go!  Our new favorite place to hang out, read, play and watch movies.

Happy Tuesday, friends!!!

PS - I've linked as many of the items in our playroom below (using affiliate links) as well as similar items but if you have any questions please feel free to let me know!  Also - a few of our items are from IKEA and if you have one close to you the prices at the store are SO MUCH BETTER than on Amazon but linking it below because that's the easiest way to keep everything in one place :)

  7. What a fun update. We have really been in the transition of pre-teens and finding pieces like that couch is huge. I want our home to be usable for all of us. Your playroom is perfection, I love all the colors!

  11. Everything looks great!! Is the space behind the couch open to the floor below? I would be terrified of that with my kids but mine are still pretty young..

    1. It is... and I was definitely scared when we first moved in. We've talked (at length!) about it with them and feel 100% comfortable with it at this point. Most homes in our area have some sort of open loft situation and it was something that we encountered in every home we looked at but it was definitely scary when they were younger!

I'm sure there's been a picture of it on you blog before but I love to see before and after's together.
