Birthday Memories

I have so many really fond birthday memories over the years - sleepovers playing dream phone and calling song requests in to the radio station, heating the hot tub up and hanging out until the wee hours of the morning, fantastic surprise parties full of friends, homemade cards and breakfasts in beds.

When I was thinking about birthday memories this past week the one that kept rising to the top was last year.  After pizza with Dave and the kids and cake and presents back at home with my parents I got a text from Manda to go look out on my porch.  I opened the door and there was an Anthropologie bag with a volcano candle inside.  I texted her back how much I loved it, how surprised I was and how much I loved her.  It was the last conversation she and I had before our final conversation in the hospital before she passed away less than 2 weeks later and it's a birthday memory I'll treasure forever.

Manda's mom and I were talking about it earlier this week - what a bright spot that was in some really difficult times - and that sweet memory just keeps popping back into my thoughts.

Manda was kind and thoughtful and loving and Christ's love shone through her every chance it got ;)
