Dear
Luke,
You’re turning 9 this Saturday and I say this every year – but I just can’t believe it. It feels like last week I was buckling you into your stroller and pushing you back and forth on the stone floor in our first house to get you to sleep. And that 5 days ago you were two and lining up cars on the front windowsill while wearing only your underwear. It must have been just last weekend that you put on that red polo for the first time and started Pre-K and surely it was yesterday that you were sitting next to me on the couch with your pointer finger out and ready as we worked through your reading practice.
But nope…. Last week you were asking to drive the golf cart by yourself. And 5 days ago you were polishing off your fourth piece of pizza (after having a sandwich that you made yourself). It was last weekend that you were helping us rake and bag leaves and ACTUALLY doing work not just pretending and yesterday you were finishing up the second Harry Potter book.

You teach me something new
every day – sometimes it’s an obscure fact about science or history, sometimes it’s a lesson in
patience, and other times it's how to do or fix something :) You are an encourager - lifting up your friends, classmates and siblings - and have a gift for looking at the positive side of things.
Today I want you to know that not a day goes
by that I don’t thank God for that smile (your dimple in particular) and for the amazing privilege of being your mom.
Love you to Maine and back!
