Monday we headed out for a day of Fun in Ft.Worth. The weather was beautiful and we had a great time at the Ft.Worth Zoo, watching the cattle drive at the stockyards, visiting TCU (Mason's FAVORITE!) and finishing off with dinner at Joe T. Garcia's.
Their favorite part of the day was feeding the birds. You purchase the seed sticks for $1 and then get to go into the enclosure to feed them. We were there early in the morning and had a BLAST and all the birds were hungry and eager to snack, but when we went back to feed them again later in the day we couldn't get any to come eat the seed. The woman was selling the sticks told us that they made 1000 for the day and they were almost sold out... so insider tip.... if you're going to feed the birds go early in the day when they're hungry :)
My favorite part of trips to the Ft.Worth zoo is the stop for ice cream :)
This is how we were all feeling by the end of our 5-hour stay at the zoo...
After the zoo we headed to the Ft.Worth stockyards to watch the cattle drive. This happens twice a day and even though I've lived in Texas for 20 years I had never seen it!
We explored downtown a bit...
... checked out the herd...
... and then decided to check out TCU. Mason's best friends are BIIIIG TCU fans and they have totally converted/indoctrinated him :)
The field was open for people to go look around so we had to go check it out!
We finished the night off with dinner at Joe T. Garcia's... the most GORGEOUS patio and amazing Mexican food.
I'm bound and determined to make more videos (we all love looking back and watching them) and I have fun putting them together. (sidenote - you can subscribe to my YouTube channel HERE!)
We had so much fun and Dave and I were talking about how we feel like we're officially out of the "baby/toddler" phase. All we brought with us was a backpack with everybody's lunches. No diapers, no wipes, no stroller, no wagon.... just us. As sad as we are that we don't have babies at home anymore it also kind of feels like the beginning of a new chapter of being able to get out and about and experience new things with a whole new level of easy.
Happy Thursday, Friends!!!
That picture of Griffin and Dave is just SO CUTE!!!!
ReplyDeleteRight?!?! Except she looks WAY too big!
DeleteGG's outfit is adorable! Growing up near Ft. Worth I would LOVE some Joe T's right now!!!! So yummy!

Thank you!!! It was our first time and we loved it! We'll definitely be back!
DeleteOur zoo just got a bird encounter last year and my kids flipped over it! I cannot wait to do it again. I totally feel you on being out of the baby/toddler phase..our youngest is 2 1/2 (but acts 5!) so I know we are there soon, bittersweet for sure
ReplyDeleteBittersweet is really the best word for it. I miss so many things about them being little... but watching them grow and be independent is so much fun!
DeleteI whole heartedly agree about the joys of no longer lugging baby stuff around. We are soaking up the joys of bigger kids before our fourth come home this fall. Looks like a great day for you guys!

I will say.... there was no place to toss everyone's jackets as the day got warmer so there's definitely something to be said for having a stroller with you :)
DeleteJoe T.s is one of my favorites!! I mean this is like the perfect day. You guys are soaking up Spring Break!
ReplyDeleteWe're trying!!! Hoping to get everyone well enough to enjoy at least one more day :)
DeleteLooks like a fun little trip :) Chelsea @ thewilliamsjourney1.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteIt was! Thanks, Chelsea!
DeleteWhat program do you use to edit/make your videos?
ReplyDeleteiMovie! All the ones on my youtube channel I've made using that.
DeleteI've been following along with your family travels on IG....I was cracking up when your baby girl was singing whatever song it was about 'butts,' at the table!! Nothing new when you grow up with brothers!
ReplyDeleteRight?!?! It's a song from Sing and (of course!) she knows all the lyrics. hahaha
DeleteSo the stockyard thing confuses me. Do people just go to see the cattle? And the herd down the streets; is that just for people to see them (like a parade), or is there another purpose? And what if they poop in the street!??!?!? Just so many questions from this non-Texan!
ReplyDeleteHahaha - you can read more about it here...https://www.fortworth.com/the-herd/about-the-herd/ but yes... in 1999 they assembled the herd of 16 (one to represent every decade of Ft.Worth) and they have an authentic cattle drive twice a day. I really wasn't paying attention to the poop situation... but there were several cowboys and then other attendants, so I'm sure someone was assigned to poop duty :)
DeleteI love Joe T. Garcia's!! What a fun little day!!
ReplyDeleteMe too! It was great :)
DeleteSo fun! This makes me want to plan a trip to the Dallas area. What do you use to make your videos? Do you use an app?
ReplyDeleteYou should totally come! And I use iMovie on my computer
DeleteWhat a fun day! We have been to the Stockyards and it's always a great day. Loved your videos and memory keeping for everyone. Do you use a program to put them together? They are great to save and look back on the days!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I use iMovie
DeleteJoe Ts is the absolute best!!! I love love love that place. I also love the zoo...but how does it compare to the Dallas zoo? I've been wNting to venture over there.
ReplyDeleteI prefer it to the Dallas Zoo in the summer because it is WAY more shady... but the Dallas Zoo has really stepped up their game so I like it as well.
DeleteWoohoo!!! Go Frogs!!! The FW Zoo is about a 5 minute walk from my office :). Glad you all had so much fun!!
ReplyDeleteSo fun!!!
DeleteThis looks like such a fun day!! I saw your Instagram videos of GG with the birds and reminded me of when my daughter tried to feed the birds exactly like that and one of them landed on her head and she freaked out!!! So funny!! If Mason ends up going to TCU for college you need to recreate that picture of him on the football field so cute!!
ReplyDeleteShe soooooooooo wanted to touch them.... but then couldn't make herself do it. It was so cute!
DeleteI was in Fort Worth last week for a conference (live in Arkansas) and felt like I couldn't be in FW and NOT go to the Stock Yards! I thought it was great! :) We ate supper at H3 and it was SO good! Side story.....The "cowboy" in the picture with your boys stopped me and said I should have my picture made with him... but it was much later in the evening and he had just walked out of White Elephant and I felt uneasy about his legitimacy! LOL!!
ReplyDeleteWe are heading to Texas next week for fun mother daughter trip and had heard that Joe T's was a definite must for mexican food. Cant wait!!
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a cattle drive in real life but my grandfather worked the cattle drive on horseback in different rodeos. I have pictures...what a sight that would have been to see! I loved your insta-stories of G feeding the birds! xoxo ERIN
ReplyDeleteTyler zoo has a similar bird encounter. My Kiddos love it too!! Sooo fun!! And we need to check out the cattle drive!! And I'm a literally jealous about the being out of the baby/toddler stage! We are finally diaper and paci free...until July! Ha.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great staycation. I think the Ft.Worth stockyards need to be on an ultimate travel bucket list. The pictures always look like such a fun experience.
ReplyDeleteWhat a FUN day! Love the video! Griffin was so brave with the birds!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! Love the cattle drive, since I am from Utah.
ReplyDeleteA few years ago, for maybe 3 or 4 years, the Western Athletic Conference had 16 teams! It was divided into 4 quadrants. The university I have season football tickets for, BYU, played TCU a few times. They were a great team! I remember that because of the train whistle that went off every time they scored. I heard it too many times!
You weren't in any of the pictures! So this happens to me too, but I've become better about asking people to take a picture of our family.
ReplyDeleteI work at TCU! Would be happy to give y'all a tour sometime!
