Friday Favorites - Giddy Up And Grow Edition

Before I dive into my regular Friday Favorites post I wanted to share Justin and Marissa's story with you...

Last weekend three students from Dallas Baptist University were killed in a car accident and as I read the news reports I found it hard to wrap my mind around the tragedy.  Later I found out that one of the boys in the car was the boyfriend of one of my former students, Marissa.

Marissa posted this video on Facebook and I had to stop and start it at least 3 times to make it through.
I can't even imagine.

As tragic as the whole situation is, what has been amazing to me has been watching Marissa and her friends talk about their faith through it all.

Reading such poignant and powerful words from such young kids not only convicts my heart but fills me with a sense of joy and hopefulness.  How open, unabashed and passionate they are about their faith is inspiring.

If you want to leave Marissa a note of encouragement letting her know that you're praying for her and for Justin's family - you can email it to me (dave-and-andrea@hotmail.com) with the subject Marissa and I'll forward them on to her.  You can read more about Justin and about what his family is doing to preserve his memory HERE.

This week has been full of FAVORITES and I can't wait to share!  Be sure to grab our graphic, link back to me, Erika and/or Narci!

My first FAVORITE of the week is MCA.  We love MCA for lots of reasons, but this week I loved it EXTRA when they had the seniors walk down the deck while the entire elementary school cheered for and high fived them!  Isn't that the sweetest?!?!  We really have a unique set-up being PK-12 where the high school students are in the lower school classrooms as teacher aids (an elective option), they spend time doing chapel presentations to the younger students when they come back from mission trips and they work in our extended school supervision program.  Also... how sweet is it that some of these kids walked this deck as elementary kids themselves?!?!  It was a teary moment for sure!

PS - My kids know lots of the high schoolers through ESS and everything I mentioned above, but they also know several of the kids who work for Dave at the country club. The girl high fiving Luke has been our source of ice cream at the pool for several summers :)

Mason has been hanging out with a few of his FAVORITE friends :)

And Griffin has been picking out her own outfits/bows this week :)  Her taste is my FAVORITE!
PS - the first pic she's wearing a nightgown and was helping Dave move boxes into the garage. hahaha

Y'all know how much I love my blardigan.  I wear it year round as it's my FAVORITE piece to throw on when I'm lounging at home.  I don't have this version of it, but look how pretty!  It's 25% off and is still available in several colors, so it might be worth for stocking up for Christmas gifts and/or for snuggling up in the AC this summer.  You can find it HERE.

I thought this assignment of Luke's was so cute!!!  MY FAVORITE part is that in the speech bubble his pig is smart because he knows that anything (including infinity!) times zero equals zero.

The past few weeks have been overwhelming to say the least.  The end of the school year in itself is CRAY and throw moving on top of that and it's nuts.  Which is why a super productive and organized day is my FAVORITE.  So much so that I had to snap pics to text to Dave ;) hahaha

I make each of my classes two practice exams AND answer keys to help them study (OMG!) and I got all of those done yesterday.  I'm almost done with my finals and then I'll be good to go.

And, exhale.

Griffin and I have a new FAVORITE place for fun, pretty and kind of quirky bows :)
Giddy Up And Grow handcrafts the cutest and most unique clips and headbands and we were absolutely tickled when she sent Griffin a package for us to try!

I mean!  Look at how presh!  I love the glittery pom pom!

This little turban is so fun!  I think it will be great for Fall with a fur vest and white tee.

Do y'all recognize this clip??? It's the door knob from Alice in Wonderland!

And this felt flower with floral fabric!

I'm partial to piggy clips and this set is EXTRA cute!

And I'm pretty sure they helped her run extra fast :)

And they even looked cute while she was dog piling with her brothers :)

She also sent Griffin a pair of cat ears which we love!

And here are a few of my other FAVORITE pieces from her shop (you can click on the pictures to go to the piece)

And if you're heading to Disney (or have a little Disney enthusiast) these are the most precious mouse ears EVER!

Mason makes some of the best art and this card that he made me is my FAVORITE!
"I'm on blue team playing soccer with mommy"  - we'll be working on leaving spaces in between letters this summer :)

One of my co-workers tagged me in this facebook post this week and I'm making one for my classroom ASAP!  Mine will probably be poster-sized ;)

This polish (you can find it HERE) is a new FAVORITE!  I topped it off with this top coat to make it extra super shiny.

I can NOT believe that this weekend is our last full one in our house.  I can't think about it too much or I'll get all sappy - but I'm looking forward to some special time here this weekend with my FAVORITE people.

Happy Friday, Friends!!!

  9. I did not hear about the accident but there was just an awful tragedy here in GA involving four members of Young Life at the college. It was so so sad.

  10. I love reading your blog every day and I follow you on snapchat too! I was wondering if you would consider doing a moving blog post where you give tips for packing stuff up on your own. For example, what did you pack first, what did you pack last, things like that. Making a big move later this summer and we'll have our valuable stuff packed professionally but we're trying to do everything else ourselves and any tips would be great! I know you've got a lot going on but just an idea for a future post! :)

  11. I did my undergraduate & graduate work at DBU and stayed to continue working here full time. There are no words that fully capture the grieving that our DBU family is experiencing. Thank you for sharing what happened to your blogging community so that friends can be praying for everyone affected by this tragic loss. As a long time reader of your blog, I wanted to speak up and express my gratitude for you!
