Three Things Right Now

1 - Google Earth - We have been Google Earthing EVERYTHING lately!  We've been looking at our house, our friends houses, school, etc.  He's completely enthralled by the aerial views and then looking at the street views to see if he can figure out what time of day/year the images were taken.

2 - Luke is hungry ALL the time!  Like, all the time.  He typically eats eggs on toast for breakfast, has a pretty big school lunch, gets a snack at ESS and then (depending on what we're having for dinner) will almost always ask for seconds.  Then, usually when I"m just finishing cleaning up the dinner dishes, he'll ask me for a snack because he's staaaaarving. :)  I'm not sure how long this little growth spurt will last, but it's crazy right now!

3 -  I've hinted around Luke's academic strengths a few times, but never come right out and said it - he is a ROCK STAR!!!  He's reading like crazy (his fluency is getting really high - which is awesome!) and his Math skills are out of control.  He discovered negative numbers on his own and loves playing the "Math Game" where I'll give him a problem like 5 + 3 and he'll say 8 and then I'll say, "divided by 2" and he'll answer with, "four", and then I'll say, "minus 10" and he'll answer with, "negative six" and so on and so on.  His memory is incredible as well - he's assigned a memory verse and 10 spelling words on Monday morning and when I quiz him on them on Monday night he has them down pat.  I'm done bragging now :)

1 - Mason is a JOKESTER and is earning himself quite the funny reputation for the things he says and does at school.  At extended care one of the high school helpers was wearing a neon pink shirt and Mason asked her if he could have her shirt because it was AWESOME.  She answered him with "no", and he responded by heading to the coloring table, making a $100 bill out of torn paper and then offering to buy her shirt :)

2 - Mason writes all his words backwards and reverses all of his letters at the same time. It's super special :)  Apparently it's developmentally normal, but we're working hard with him at home on left to right writing.  This is extra fun because he is S.T.U.B.B.O.R.N.  We have to trick him into practicing his writing and working on letter recognition using games, puzzles and activities.  Homeboy can trace like a BOSS!!!

3 - Mason is sneaky, but then he'll tell us about it.  For example, he'll come and tell me, "Mommy, I just sneaked grapes out of the fridge" or "Luke, I just hid your Lego guy in the bathroom drawer.  Along with being sneaky, he's maintaining his status as snuggliest kid. :)

1 - Griffin is a total "little mama".  She LOVES to take care of her babies, stuffed animals and her brothers.  She carts them around in her stroller, makes them food in her play kitchen and pretends to change their diapers.  When we're around friends who have real babies, she will just stand there and stare and ask repeatedly to "hold baby! hold baby! hold baby!"

2 - Griffin wants to know where everyone is at all times.  She's the first one out of bed in the mornings and she toddles into our room and always asks about "yuke" and "sayson" ;)  When I pick her up from Miss Lisa's I get an initial, excited, "MOMMY!!!" and then it's "Yuke here? Sayson here? Daddy here?"  She likes to have all her people with her at all times.

3 - Her two favorite places are dance and church.  We joke that she needs a planner because she asks us all the time, "church day, mommy?", "dance day, daddy?"  If she asks about church and we tell her no she immediately asks about dance.  If she asks about dance and we tell her it's not today she immediately asks about church.  I love that she loves being out and about and (as of right now) is confident in being away from us and has lots of fun with her friends in both of those settings.

1 - Dave is gearing up for a crazy season at work.  Think Holiday parties, weddings, corporate events, etc.  It's a good thing he's totally AMAZING at what he does (and he brings home extra dessert) ;)

2 - He's addicted to Fantasy Football right now.  Well, maybe not addicted... but he's playing with some guys from work and when he dropped something off at school for me the other day he and some of my students were discussing their fantasy teams. I am soooooooo not a football fan, so he's forced to talk about it with everyone else but me.

3 - Dave has been the laundry BOSS this week!  I've been working on cards and he's been keeping our heads above water in the laundry department by folding AND putting away a load every night.  #amen

1 - I've been eating grapes like nobodies business.  They are SO good right now!!! I bought 5 lbs a few days ago and they're all gone.  GONE!

2 - I've been wishing I could sing :) Watching The Voice has made my desire for a pretty singing voice strong.  It's too bad I can't sing AT ALL!  Fingers crossed one (or more) of the kids ends up with a beautiful voice. :)

3 - I'm done with Christmas shopping!!!  I say that, but I need to check my list again this weekend - but I'm fairly certain that I'm done!  YAY!!!

So, there's three things that have been going on with each of us lately - what three things have been going on with you???

Happy Wednesday, Friends!

    2. i have a college age daughter (her boyfriend) and a teen daughter and a few teen cousins to buy for.
I like to get creative with cash gifts for them.
A favorite is to buy the seasonal Reese's trees candy (the package is kind of long/slender). I fold and tape $20 or lower/higher amount on the back of the candy bar. Then with my computer I type/print out the following saying "Sometimes MONEY DOES GROW on Trees!" Using decorative scissors, I cut the saying out, a bit smaller than the size of the candy bar and with washi tape, place saying over the money, letting the money peek out!
Another favorite and easy idea is to buy individual Play-doh containers (or a pack and divide the containers) and wrap a $20 in some plastic wrap and place it inside the Play-doh container. Add a little note that says - "Here's some dough to play with!"
Then I wrap the "special" Play-doh container (or the Reeses candy bar) in a small box, and take that box and wrap it in a bigger box, and then one more bigger box wrapped for a third time.
(starting around October, I save empty snack, cracker, granola, cereal, etc. boxes from my pantry for odd shaped xmas gift boxes - recycling at it's best!) I make them work to unwrap a gift of $!

  7. Just wait, you have two boys. Their life is a constant growth spurt with the eating. I have a 12 year old and he NEVER stops eating. If he says he isn't hungry, I say "wait 5 minutes and you will be!" 😜

    1. Luke didn't do that AT ALL so I was definitely concerned and felt so much better when I realized that it was developmentally normal. And yes - it's fascinating!!!

    2. Both of my kids wrote in perfect mirror image for a while, too! I just think it means they're geniuses, haha! We didn't have to practice the right way with them, they just outgrew it and I'm sure yours will too. Love your blog Andrea!

  17. OMG Andrea, you and I both wish we could sing because of The Voice. When I'm driving in my car singing, I always imagine myself on the show dancing and singing. It would be much more fun singing to myself if I had a better singing voice HAHA

  18. I always wish I could sing while watching the voice.. I also struggle with which coach I would choose.. I mean, I love Blake and Adam is so smart and Pharrell is so sweet and he could make me a star.. He's an incredible producer... And then I remember I can't sing. Darn it.

    1. I had that same thought the other day!!! I go back and forth with who I would choose as well (because I'm CERTAIN it would be a four chair turn, right?) :) I think I'd probably go with Blake.

  21. Super fun post. And I totally agree about coveting a voice like the people on The Voice. I have never watched that show before, until this year. I have so many favorites. They are SO GOOD. And I'm so jealous of their talent.
