Show and Tell Tuesday: Beauty Routines

Not going to lie.  This post intimidates me.  I am sooooooo not a "beauty products" girl.  I am super duper basic.  My mom MADE me wear mascara to my senior prom basic ;)

So here's a peek into my makeup drawer.

The acrylic holders came from WalMart and were super inexpensive.

I am not a lipstick girl, but I do love me some chapstick and gloss.  I have TONS of glosses stashed around and Softlips are some of my favorites.

For my face, I love the Bare Face cleansing oil from Julep.  I use it every night and love how clean, but not dry it makes my face.

I follow up with Clinique Moisture Surge gel cream. It's super hydrating, but not greasy.  I put it on after I wash my face at night and sometimes in the morning when I wake up as well.

I pretty much always use neutral shadows.  Some are from Julep (when you sign up for the Maven box you get nail polish every month as well as at least one full size beauty product) and some are by e.l.f.

I've bought this palette a couple of times and  use it often.

I've tried lots of different eye liners (pencils, etc.) and the one I always come back to is $2 at WalMart.

I'm not super particular about mascara... I'm currently using the Length Matters black from Julep (see a theme????), but I've always been a fan of Maybelline products as well.

and I blogged about this Lollia perfume a couple of weeks ago, but it's always what I finish up with.

Okay... so originally I was going to just show my products and call it a day.  But that seemed kind of lame.  Soooooooooooo....... I'm going to do a quick before and after.  No tutorial or anything because I'm assuming you all know how to apply eyeshadow, but a couple of pictures to show what my 3-5 minute routine does.

So this is without anything.  And is what I look like most of the time in the summer. ;)

And this is about 3 minutes later.  Eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, some bronzer and a quick swipe of tinted chapstick.  The end.

I'm not sure I've ever felt more crazy taking pictures :)

Quick and easy!

So as minimal as I am with my makeup, I make up for it in nail polish.  I've pretty much always changed my polish up a couple of times a week.  I paint them at night while I'm blogging or working on cards or blog designs and they're dry by the time I'm done.  I keep a little bowl in my desk drawer and throw my polish in there when I'm done and when I got it out yesterday afternoon it looked like this...

Here are a few shades of Essie I've been wearing lately.

And a few OPI.
One - Two - Three - Four - Five - Six

I'm not linking to the specific Julep polishes because lots of them are several months old and unavailable, but just know that if you sign up for their monthly Maven box you won't be disappointed!  The colors are always awesome and a lot of their polishes only require one coat.

I also really like Loreal polishes and these are a few I've been wearing lately.
(PS - the third polish is on sale for $0.17.  Yes ma'am.  Seventeen cents)

If I have extra time of know that I'm going to want my manicure to last a while, I use the whim base and top coats.

Otherwise, I always finish up with Seche Vite top coat.  It's quick drying, super shiny and extra strong.

And since it's obvious I have a polish problem - I might as well show you how I store my stash.
These CD cases are awesome because they hold a lot and stack neatly in my linen closet.  I also use these for storing game pieces, Legos and other little bits and pieces around the house.

And I know we talked about hair products a few weeks ago - but I forgot to mention Biotin.  I've been taking it for a year and although my hair naturally grows pretty fast, I think it's growing extra fast due to the Biotin.

I need to have it trimmed and thinned out again, but here it was in February and then last night.  I'm wanting to donate 8" again and I'm shooting for next summer.

I can't wait to read about all of your routines!  And if there is something fabulous I need to know about, leave me a comment.

Happy Tuesday, friends!!!

  2. I'm a 5 minute make-up girl as well. I've NEVER actually worn eyeshadow that isn't a neutral, but it's only because I don't know how. The few times I've had my make-up done, I LOVE the end result...but I never keep it up.

  7. I don't ever leave the house without makeup unless we are going to the pool or someone is super sick, but I am very basic in my routine too. Makeup doesn't get me very excited, but nail polish is a different story. I'm an Essie girl and I have 5 of the same colors you're wearing right now. We are birds of a feather : ) I read that Drew Barrymore's makeup line, Flower, has the best top coat ever and I'm wanting to try that at Walmart to see if it dries any faster. Happy Tuesday!

  10. Love the before and after pics! I am super simple and cheap with makeup stuff too. My skins never behaves and I have had issues since adolescence. I have been using Merle Norman foundation for 11 years now because I need full coverage that will last all day. I just got a Naked pallet this Christmas and I like it ok. I don't think I really know how to use it correctly though. You have inspired me to take some biotin and to up my nail polish game. :)

  11. Quick and simple routines are what I live for! I think I have a million different chapsticks throughout my house, car, purse, etc. I can't get enough!
I forgot about adding that I use Biotin to my hair post too! I have noticed a big difference as well!

  15. I'm so excited to join your linkup today! I love this topic, and love how neutral you keep everything. Your nail polish picks are also really great and perfect for summer. I started using biotin a few months ago and love the huge difference I've seen. If you don't like taking those big pills you should try a chewable! That's what I use and it makes it so much easier to take every day.

  16. Andrea, I signed up for Julep a few months ago. Did you get the oil body cleanser in your box this month? If so what are your thoughts? I haven't tried it because I'm a little apprehensive since an oil cleanser sounds different than what I would usually do. Also, you should try Birchbox if you haven't already. It's good to try stuff you usually wouldn't think of buying and only $10 a month.

  17. You have some great nail polish colors! I don't have a ton, but my collection is starting to grow. I really feel like I need to try that Loreal polish now. I have never used it. Oh, and I sure do like the way you store yours. I use the same kind of box.

  18. Thank you for doing this topic because I was super dreading it too, and I had a mild case of bloggers block, so this was a challenge. BUT! It really helped me get something out there.

Reading your post, I see I definitely need to up my polish game. My nails mostly look super sad. How do you get it done while you're blogging? I'm both a little envious and impressed.

  19. I LOVE how simple your routine is, but that you make up for it in quality nail products:) I do the same. Your simple routine and minimal makeup just go to show how naturally beautiful you are.

  20. I can't believe you only wore mascara to your prom. :) That is awesome. You and I are so similar with make-up...I always watch those Youtube videos and tell myself I'm going to get better about wearing make up like a woman, but then I just go back to my old routine and spend 5-10 minutes applying make-up...I get so bored and just want it done. Lol
