Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, friends!!!  Erika ,  Narci and I are sharing our FAVORITES this week and we'd love it if you'd join us by grabbing our graphic and linking up with us at the bottom of this post.

First up on my list of FAVORITES was my trip to West Texas last week....

... I went with our 8th grade out to Ft. Davis, Texas to the McDonald Observatory and Prude Ranch and we had a total blast.  Yes it was 20 hours total in a bus, yes I had to be at school at 4 am, yes I spent two nights in a bunk bed with 20 girls and 3 showers and YES I had a wonderful time :)  As a teacher it's so fun to see kids outside of the classroom and is even a little more enlightening for us because my students wear uniforms every day... seeing them in their OWN wardrobe choices is neat because it let's you in on another little bit of their personalities.

We toured the caverns at Sonora...

... had a cowboy cookout complete with cowboy songs and stories (and a rap battle - hahaha)...

... rode horses up to the top of a ridge...

... swam in a natural spring pool complete with fish...

... got to check out a 9' wide telescope at the top of a mountain...

... had a star party and saw Jupiter, the milky way, shooting stars and the ISS...

And saw some pretty incredible sunsets...

The best part of the trip though was getting to hang out with some of my FAVORITE people EVER!!!

Seriously... we have the BEST chaperone team and laugh pretty much for 3 days straight!

And you better believe I wore this extremely appropriate shirt :)

I also wore my  new FAVORITE poncho... it's roomy and lightweight but still warm but also not stifling.

Other FAVORITES from the week include meeting Baby Violet for the first time!

Y'all!!! She is complete and total perfection!

I had gotten back in town at like 10:30 the night before and was at Meagan's before 8:30 am with coffee I was so excited to meet her!

And you know I had to bring over a few of my FAVORITE things for that sweet pea!!!

While I was out of town Mason was the mystery reader for Griffin's class and this picture is one of my new FAVORITES!!!  He did a great job and Griffin was SO PROUD to have her big brother read to her friends.

Next up on my list are more fun picks from Halogen at Nordstrom.  I mentioned Halogen last week as a new FAVORITE brand to shop - it's high-quality, consciously sourced, on-trend and a great value.  Most of their pieces can go from work, to after-work to the weekend and the pieces I picked today totally fit that bill.

I grabbed  this shift dress,  this jacket and  these sneakers and put them together as an outfit I would totally wear to work, but could also run to the ballfields in after school and not feel totally out of place.

I have a great relaxed denim jacket that I love but I feel like the bell sleeve detail and more polished collar on  this one give it a totally different look which I love!

I absolutely adore  the sneakers as well and think they'll be great with casual dresses and cutoff jeans.  They were comfy and not nearly as heavy as I anticipated which was great.

The dress is a new FAVORITE because I feel like it will be a staple piece in my closet forever!  It's super versatile and easy to wear and I love that it's machine wash and dry - AMEN!  I'm wearing a small and found it to run a bit on the larger side - I could have done an XS (which I typically can't) but I was concerned that the length wouldn't be as school-appropriate.

I switched it up with a Free People kimono (mine is old but I linked a few I love below!) and  these wedges (which are the comfiest pair I own!)  for a dressier look and look how cute (and easy!)

I've had a great time trying and sharing the Halogen brand this month and hope that y'all have found some pieces that you love and will work will in your closets.  I always love sharing products from Nordstrom because of their great selection, free shipping and awesome customer service.

You can shop the dress, jacket and other items below (and look at how cute the dress is in that pink rose print!)

Last, but not least - this boy in the batting cages is my FAVORITE ;)

This weekend is full of all the regular suspects... birthday parties, dance, football, baseball and Griffin's party!  We're ready to celebrate her with her friends (and mama is ready to decorate!).

Happy Friday, friends!!!

PS - Thank you so much to Nordstrom for partnering with me on this post!  The links used above may be affiliate links - thanks so much for reading and supporting my blog!

  1. I have been reading your blog for a couple of years. I don't know how I stumbled on it. I'm sure it was through a teacher blog!

Your school trip looked fun! I taught 5th grade for 33 years (now in 5th grade of retirement) in Alpine, Utah (between Salt Lake and BYU...which hosted TCU a couple of times in football, with that load honking horn when they scored). Our district has property about 90 minutes from our school that we took our kids to. 10 hours from my house would be Disneyland!

I have been intrigued with the situation with Mason's eyes. I had a student back in the 1980's that had something just like it. Back then, there was nothing they could do! I'm glad for the progress!!!

I love your cat, and all the great things that your family does! Keep up the great work!!!

  5. I did that exact trip when I was in the 5th grade (even stayed at the same place!), and I'm pretty sure it hasn't changed one bit since 1992. I felt like I stepped back into time reading your post!
