This Halloween was not at all what we had planned but everyone ended up having SO MUCH FUN and I couldn't have imagined it going any differently than it did. I will say - I very much miss the days of mummy dogs and little kids in little costumes and having all of our friends and their kids over and having dry ice ice cream punch and ALL OF THOSE THINGS. I think even more than on Christmas or other Holidays Halloween hits me HARD that my kids are getting older so I'm trying to make the absolute most of these fun times with them when the opportunities arise!
G and her friends had originally planned these costumes to come to our house and have pizza and maybe trick or treat a little bit before heading to the last home varsity football game. The game ended up being moved to Thursday night and so we were left hosting an impromptu Halloween night for 8 girls ;) Honestly - my fave.
They got to our house around 6:00 and put the finishing touches on their Care Bear costumes (there were boa feathers from one end of my house to the other since they all had to cut their boas to hot clue the little emblems on them. They snacked a bit, ran around and then I snapped a couple of photos of the entire group in their costumes before it got too dark.
Dave and I hung out out front passing out candy to our early trick-or-treaters while the girls did this...
I often get questions if a Springfree trampoline is worth it and the answer is YES! We had a smaller one at our old house and then got this ginormous one when we moved into this house 10 years ago and it seriously still looks great. I can't tell you how many time my teenage kids and their friends have all ended up out here - they've even slept out here overnight which is super fun. It's held up well and we've never had an injury so if you're on the fence about it let this be my official endorsement ;)
Once it got dark the girls decided to trick-or-treat for a little bit....
Then they came back home for some candy trading.
Rosie kept trying to steal lollipops so they moved their party upstairs ;)
After candy-trading and sorting is when the real fun began ;) These girls had been talking about wanting to toilet paper some of the boys in their grade and so I sent out the necessary parent texts (are you okay with your kid tp-ing and are you okay with being tp-ed), ordered a bunch of cheap toilet paper and loaded up all the girls for their first stop. When I tell you that they were the MOST conspicuous wrappers of all time I'm not exaggerating. Between pulling up with the windows down and Justin Bieber's "baby" blaring, their inability to be quiet, the shiny shorts, and the fact that it was like 8:20 at night and people were still trick-or-treating they were a total disaster in the best possibly way ;)
They quickly got to work and after I explained that the goal wasn't to throw the rolls onto the roof but was to get it up into the trees and the bushes they were golden ;)
They did end up getting caught, but that was half the fun ;)
We booked it downtown where their next target was waiting on his porch for them (probably due to their very unsuspicious texting of "are you still up" after posting photos of the other house in a 7th grade group text). So his mom and I snapped this high quality photo and we made our way back to our neighborhood for our final stop.
This mom knew we were coming and her son was actually at a sleepover so she gave the girls her approval to "do the most" and actually came out and took pics and videos with them after ;)
This definitely felt like a rite of passage and the girls could not stop talking about how much fun it was. If you can pull off a tp-ing night I HIGHLY recommend ;)
Mason was with friends being characters from Coraline? (Don't ask because I don't even know) but I absolutely LOVE this group of kids and love that they took pics on "one of those vintage digital cameras".
And Luke was at a friends house for a costume and movie night. GRATEFUL for their sweet friends and for parents who host!
I ordered these inflatable tentacles and they were the easiest and best yard decor. They're essentially giant pool floats that you stake down so there's no cords at all. The lights are all battery powered and come with a remote - you can make them all different colors, have them flash through a rainbow of colors, strobe, etc. They stake down and survived an actual Texas windstorm the week before Halloween and we only had one stake break. WINNING! My plan is to order two more sets for the other side of our yard for next year because I loved them so much and they are so easy!
We also just completely ran out of time to carve pumpkins last week (our kids had an activity/school thing every single night) and so I ended up using my galvanized pottery barn pumpkins and LOVED them! Our un-carved pumpkins are still sitting on our porch and I feel like that pretty much sums up this season of life ;)
I hope y'all had a very happy Halloween whether you were wrangling little ones or passing out candy while all your kids were out living their best lives ;)
HAPPY Monday, friends!!!

The PERFECT Halloween! xx
