Woke up last Wednesday and decided on a whim to do a day in the life. I was up, showered, and drinking hot tea by bout 6:15 a.m.
I always mention that I sneak in a few pages while I blow dry my hair and people get SO CONFUSED and this is how I get it done...
I use this silver mirror that belonged to my grandmother to hold my book open and then just read while I use my hands to hold my brush and dryer. I've read while I dried my hair since I was in high school and don't know what everyone else while they dry!
G came down and wanted me to help finish drying and doing her hair...
... and then the boys came in as well for hairspray and what not because it was picture day. When the kids were younger Dave was on "get ready" duty making sure everyone had their lunches and shoes tied and what not and now that they're all self-sufficient he's more on breakfast duty making sure everyone has something on their way out and on this day he was browning some sausage so that I could dump it in the crockpot to make a soup when I got home from work. BLESS!!!
It's just me and G most mornings because Mason rides with Luke. They have so much fun together and Mason loves the "buzz" of the student lot and I'm SO GRATEFUL they get that time but it's bittersweet for me!
Got to my classroom right before 7:30...
... and pretty much immediately had to run to the copy machine because #teacherlife.
I made sure I had all my things prepped for my first period PreAlgebra class...
... and then booked it over to the gym to (hopefully) sneak in my school photo BUT I wasn't the only one with this idea so I decided I'd just go with my class later and headed back to my room.
GORGEOUS morning on campus!
First period starts at 8:00 and I dove right in with my 7th graders reviewing integer operations.
This year our House Games are taking place every Wednesday in between our first and second classes and I'd planned a super fun pool noodle game but thanks to picture day we'd lost our space in the gym and it started POURING out of nowhere so I had to pivot super fast and throw together a trivia challenge using Kahoot and google meet.
Thankfully it ended up being a lot of fun and I was kind of excited to have the next week's game already planned and ready ;)
Next up was my 8th grade Honor's Algebra class where we continued our unit on equations and talked about solving equations that have variable s on both sides...
... then had to pause that to head to the SLC for picture day. I ran into this cute girl heading back to class...
... and then a kiddo who belongs to one of my former students! Her mama was in one of my very first classes of 8th graders and we had to take a pic to send her mom ;)
After our picture-day intermission it was back to Algebra to talk about rewriting literal equations and formulas.
Tutorial time followed by lunch and this text exchange with Dave ;) hahahaha
I had leftover spaghetti (recipe coming soon) for lunch in my classroom with Sharon...
... and then one last section of Pre-Algebra.
So this year I have half as many classes in a day but for twice as long. The jury is still out on whether or not I love the block schedule but I do love that it feels way less "hectic" thanks to half the amount of passing periods and transitions. My planning is at the end of the day and I spent a few minutes pretty much just disassociating in silence (I can't be the only one!)....
I was snapped out of my disassociation when Luke stopped in to grab a snack before heading out to the gym. He has a P8 study hall on B-days and gets to leave school. He's been heading to the gym and then coming back for XC practice.
I rallied, snapped an outfit pic because I'm trying to be better about sharing...
... and then started getting a few things ready for my A-Day classes the next day. This involved a trip to the copy machine...
... and then tackling this hot mess. It's been a little out of control back here since the first week of school so I spent some time putting things where they belonged and just getting organized.
I made mini apple spice cupcakes the prior weekend and packed a Pyrex of them to keep in my mini fridge and BLESS ME that was a good idea ;)
More trips to the copy machine (this time to scan) and a "middle school moment" that made me laugh because does anything say middle school like half a pop tart just hanging out on the ground?
I got myself organized for the next day...
... worked on my slides...
... and did a final check of my to-do-list...
... before hitting the road with this kid about 3:45. She had cheer pictures and we were leaving a few minutes early...
... so that I could get her home....
... and get the dogs out...
... before I met these two at the chiropractor for a follow-up for Luke. He's been having some shoulder and achilles things worked on and asked me to come "just in case" and how cold I say no to that???
They were coming straight from XC practice and they got settled in to do a bit of HW while we waited...
Luke met with the doctor...
... and then I snuck in a few pages...
... while he had some scraping done.
When I meal planned I totally forgot about Luke's chiropractor appointment so it was a bit of a mad dash to get some zuppa toscana going in the crock pot, but he helped me out Dave had already browned the sausage so it was pretty quick
I headed out for a girls dinner (YES MA'AM!!!)...
... and the kids all went to youth group. Dave was at home with them before they went to youth and then he picked up Mason and G from church after since Luke decided to go out with friends. I got home around 8:30 and picked out my outfit for the next day...
... and immediately washed my face and got into pjs :)
I hopped into bed with some greens to knock out some blog work and emails...
... and this started the rotation of kids in my bed ;) For chatting, homework, help, etc. Frank included. hahaha
Dave helped Mason out with a few things...
... Griffin was out cold on the couch...
.... and Luke got home and immediately joined the party in my room for some chit chat time ;)
I closed my computer about 10:30 and fell asleep with a book in my hand before 11:00. I know this because Dave came in and found me asleep upright with a book in my hands - hahaha
These days are busy and full but I wouldn't change them for the world! Happy Monday, friends!!!
Wow! A very full Day in the Life! Thanks for sharing! I always love seeing all your fun lessons and activities for your students. I know they love your creativity!
