Last Monday night was our annual. back to school brinner and while I wish I had something super fun and new to share, this is one of those traditions that my kids are pretty particular about when it comes to the menu and it's the time of year where I don't have the mental energy to get super creative ;)
This tradition was born in 2016 when I really wanted to do a cute themed first day of school breakfast BUT knew it was impossible since we leave so early for school. I decided to do "breakfast for dinner" the night before school and it's PERFECT because it's a special meal we don't do often and we have plenty of leftovers for breakfasts during the week. Y'all... look at this picture from our first one and then nobody remind me (unlike Mason) that next year will be the last one we have where everyone has the same first day. (insert internal sobbing here) hahahaha
A lot of my decor stays the same year to year although I do mix it up if I find something new and fun to put out like these books I thrifted last month.
Our menu FOR SURE stays the same year to year (I learned that lesson a couple of years ago when I told them I was going to "mix things up" and was immediately shot down) and includes Shay's sausage balls (I triple the recipe so we have a ton of leftovers for easy breakfasts all week)...
... some sort of pastry/danish...
... scrambled eggs, cut fruit, and yogurt.
I have a vintage metal school bus and school bell that I use as decor throughout the house leading up to back to school and then on the table this night before packing them up and eagerly counting down the days until I can decorate for Halloween ;)
I found these plates at Sugarboo several years ago and love them so much!
I'm going to be honest - I'm VERY MUCH in my feels about this season. When I started some of these traditions (B2S Brinner, North Pole Breakfast, etc.) the "end" of some of them seemed FOREVER away and now that we're creeping closer and closer to them stopping (or looking different than they did when the kids were little) it feels extremely bittersweet. I'm SO GRATEFUL that I've been able to create these memories for them (and me!) and what a blessing it is to have three healthy kids to experience them but MAN it stings a bit.
Not even sure how to end after that (hahaha) so I'll just encourage you to do the dinner, be extra, be intentional - it's such a fleeting season and you'll be glad you did it!
HAPPY Monday, friends!
I love doing this Back to School tradition, as well, because of you! My daughter was born in 2016, and we all look forward to Back to School Brinner every year! It really is easy and everyone is happy!
ReplyDeleteThere is NOTHING more special than these traditions we have created for our families. My heart gets full every single time. Girl, we only have one more year of "the whole gang" being there for them. xx
