Friday morning started off a bit slower than anticipated thanks to our chartered fishing trip being cancelled due to the weather. It was absolutely GORGEOUS out, but had been super windy and the captain we had hired to take us out fishing was concerned for our safety and that's really all I needed to hear. hahaha. It was a bummer as everyone (ESPECIALLY Luke and Mason) had been looking forward to it but there was nothing we could do about it and we were heading off of Cape Cod the next day so we couldn't reschedule. If I was planning this trip again I'd probably book a fishing trip for one of the first days just in case it had to get rescheduled - live and learn!
That said - nobody was really mad about sleeping in and getting to enjoy a morning at the house ;)
The swan family came by...
... and the boys took out the kayak and row boat out onto the lake and confirmed that the wind was crazy ;)
.... and then I walked to Main Street to check out a few antique shops. I went with an "I'm buying NOTHING" mentality and then I saw these...
... and that wooden swan (it was labeled a swan... but now I'm thinking it may be a duck/goose) called my name. I texted Dave and asked if he thought I could fit it in my carryon suitcase and he (and all three kids) said absolutely not. I bought it anyway. hahaha. Y'all know I have a thing for swans and then there were swans in the pond behind the house we stayed in and I just loved it so much. As soon as I got it back to the house my entire family started razzing me about it not being a swan at all and then it just because this big joke ;) It ended up BARELY fitting in my suitcase but it DID fit and made it back to McKinney in one piece and I ADORE it!
I stopped into a couple of other cute shops and took photos of all the hydrangeas like the tourist I am ;)
I walked back to the house...
... and casually passed a gristmill...
... and this stunning inn.
Back at the house we played some cards...
... and then Griffin and I walked to the Dunbar Tea Room which was literally across the street from the house.
We browsed all of their loose teas...
... and then took our seat in their beautiful dining room.
English breakfast, please!
It was a super special time with G and she shares my love of a tea sandwich ;)
While we were eating tea sandwiches and sipping tea the boys grabbed lunch and headed back to the beach.
While we waited for them to get back G and I took a blanket out by the pond and read some Babysitter's Club under the willow tree.
This will forever be a core memory for me. It was breezy and beautiful and it was just EVERYTHING.
The geese came back for their afternoon nap spot (which was right where we were sitting) and they can be pretty pushy (hahaha) so we decided to put our pjs on and climb in bed to continue reading.
GLORIOUS!
Reading time quickly turned into nap time...
... and when the boys got back form the beach everyone showered, got changed, we grabbed some quick dinner and headed to The Melody Tent to hear a Taylor Swift cover band ;)
When I planned this trip I googled "Cape Cod events" and then sorted by the dates we're going to be there and while this was a more G-centered event I figured that with the fishing tour in the morning (whoopsie) that it all kind of balanced out. The venue itself has such a cool history and Texas could NEVER have an open-air tent like this so it was fun to check out regardless of who was performing.
Overall it was a blast ;)
Griffin LOVED it and the boys are all great sports and sang along to as many of the songs as they knew and their eye-rolling was minimal ;)
Despite the change in plans it ended up being a super relaxing and fun last day on Cape Cod.
One last post coming up on Wednesday and that'll wrap up the recaps! We LOVED our time on Cape Cod and would absolutely go back again.
Happy Monday, friends!
It looks amazing! I have a friend who has a house there and now I really want to go!!
