Y'all know I LOVE a theme and as my kids have gotten older and moved away from themed birthday parties I've turned themed birthday dinners into our family tradition. Sometimes the theme revolves around the meal, sometimes around something they love and sometimes it's just FUN.
This year when discussing Luke's birthday dinner he said his one and only request was smoked turkey. As he repeatedly said smoked turkey someone said "what about smoking turkeys?" and thus, a theme was born. The plan was to have his dinner a couple of days after his actual birthday, but then schedules opened up and we ended up bumping it to the day before his birthday and so Amazon Prime and I got to work STAT.
And here we go. hahaha
Y'all. If you had told me that one day I'd be decorating with fake cigarettes I would have scoffed in your face. Yet here we are and it was a hit ;). I ordered these fake cigarettes that actually produced smoke (kind of) and we couldn't stop laughing.
They looked surprisingly real and while only a couple of us could actually get them to "smoke" they were still fun.
Let me add - WE ARE NOT PROMOTING SMOKING! Both of my parents smoked in the nineties and we actually had some great conversation about it. hahaha. Would I do this theme for an 8 year old? No. But 17 and able to laugh about it - YES!
For dinner he requested Roadhouse rolls, corn, macaroni and cheese and SMOKED TURKEY.
The cigarettes all over the table are cracking me up.
His dessert of choice was homemade oatmeal raisin cookies...
... and I wrapped everything in my handy dandy brown paper and accented with these inflatable turkey legs ;)
My original idea was to suspend them over the table but I ran into technical difficulties so I had to pivot.
Overall it was a super fun night and I think we'll be laughing for a long time about the smoking turkey theme ;)
HAPPY Monday, friends!!
This is hilarious!! I always love your themed events. Happy Birthday, Luke!!
ReplyDeleteYou are so creative!! I love how you get a theme and run with it.
ReplyDeleteWell this is just hysterical and will forever be MEMORABLE!
ReplyDeleteMy 12 year old was Chief Brody (from Jaws) for Halloween last year. Chief Brody was a chain smoker. I ordered fake cigarettes for him for his costume. We were eating dinner with others from the neighborhood and I looked over and he'd passed all of his friends a fake cigarette, too, so a whole group of 12 year olds was "smoking" at the Halloween party. Won Mom of the Year that night! Oops! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI love the theme!! The blow up turkey legs are cute too! Your family always comes up with the cutest themes. Happy 17th birthday to Luke!
