Quick Trip: College Station

Luke had an indoor track meeting at A&M this past weekend and with school being out for bad weather, Mason and G opted to tag along as well.  Thursday we had A TON of snow but by Friday afternoon the roads were pretty clear and we had no trouble getting out of McKinney PRAISE THE LORD!!!

The drive is about 3hr 15min and with after quick snack stop we made it to our hotel for the night.  I had originally booked two nights at the A&M Hotel and Conference Center but we ended up only needing one night and the original rate I had booked our two nights at was now WAY up and the one night was going to cost pretty much the same as the two so I decided to cancel and look at other options.  I ended up booking a double king room at Hotel McCoy and COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MORE PLEASED!

It was SUPER affordable, had a TON of amenities and fun activities and just the right amount of quirky ;)

I mean - they had an arcade room that was covered in Dolly Parton wallpaper... what more could you ask for?!!?!?

We got settled in and explored just a bit and then met a few other track families at Napa Flats for dinner...

... which had an AWESOME buratta...

... and steak flatbread.

The kids all enjoyed their meals and we had fun hanging out with friends.  Napa Flats shared a parking lot with a Home Goods so you KNOW we had to go check it out.  Our one purchase??? A parmesan cheese hand-grater.  hahahaha

Back at the hotel we checked out a few more of the outdoor activities...

.... it was COLD and wet but can you imagine how much fun this would be in better weather???

TONS of cute seating areas, a big stage, heated pool, pickle ball, lifesize chess, etc.

We settled in for the night (the beds were memory foam which we all LOVED!) and watched a movie on the giant TV and then were up bright and early Saturday morning to head to the meet.

They had an oatmeal bar with TONS of toppings so we grabbed some oatmeal (and poptarts!)

... before bidding adieu to our super fun stay. We're planning a trip back for an actual college visit for Luke and can't wait to be back when it's a bit warmer.

This is where our day kind of took a turn... the meet was supposed to be "open" and despite our team being registered they ended up cancelling HUNDREDS of athletes registrations the day of the race.  It was crazy and so disappointing.  Thankfully we were only in this a few hours drive and a night at a hotel and we didn't fly in for this or drive from another state like a lot of athletes we saw turned away.  It was bizarre.  We stayed and watched the 60m hurdles and then decided to go look around campus a bit and get an early start heading home.

Disappointed, but not a whole lot we could do about it other than try to make the most of the trip! The indoor facility was BEAUTIFUL and we got to see some incredible hurdlers sooooo counting that as kind of a win.

We weren't planning on having a lot of time to look around the A&M campus so I felt a bit unprepared but we checked out a few highlights...

... made sure to stop in at the Bonfire Memorial...

.... and hit up a couple of apparel spots before leaving College Station.

Consolation prize ;) hahaha

We hit the road back to McKinney and landed ourselves back at Buc-ees for the second time in 24 hours.

Nobody was mad about it!

Especially Mason and his three-meat sandwich. hahaha

If you're going to be at a Buc-ees anytime soon do yourself a favor and get the banana pudding.  TRUST ME.

Luke was my navigator on the way home and he managed to sneak in a detour to pick up a Lego set he bought from some guy on FB Marketplace (a boy after his mama's FB marketplace-loving heart).  ;) hahaha

Despite traveling 450 miles roundtrip for a track meet that Luke didn't even run in we ended up having an awesome time and made the most of the time together and with friends.  Not sure I'd choose to do it again BUT I'm glad for the time with these three ;)

HAPPY Monday, friends!!!

  2. That hotel is adorable! So fun! Wow! I can't believe the race did that to all those kids. That's really frustrating! I'm glad that you still were able to squeeze in some fun and tour the college. And, of course, Buc-ees for the win!

  4. That hotel is so cute but wow, what a disappointment. It looks like you all had lots of fun though.
