DC Part ONE

So when Mason and G had an opportunity to head to camp this week I started thinking about what Luke and I could get up to and came up with taking him to DC.

We were up and at 'em pretty early on Monday to head out...

... and after some pretty delicious airport croissants and a flight we landed in DC.

We flew into Reagan, grabbed an Uber (couldn't have been easier!) and headed to the hotel.

We checked into the Hotel Washington...

... and then set out to explore a bit with no real plan other than Air and Space museum at 3:00 (this museum is free but you need to reserve tickets ahead of time).

The WWI memorial was right across the street from the hotel so we stopped to check that out...

... and then as we were walking we realized that the streets were shut down for a Memorial Day parade so we grabbed some food truck tacos (2/10 - do not recommend - hahaha)...

... and then settled in to watch.

It was pretty surreal to be sitting there watching with the Washington Monument in the background.

Some of my pics have different backgrounds because we realized that in order to make it to the Air and Space museum we were going to have to start booking it so we were walking and watching ;)

Bagpipes get me every time!

It was so special and I teared up when the military bands came by.  An incredible experience for sure!

We got tot he Air and Space Museum at 3:00 and stayed until it closed at 5:30.  There was SO MUCH to see and it was incredibly well done.

A large portion of the museum was under renovation and I feel like if it had been open we could have been there at least another two hours.

From the museum we Ubered over to the Old Ebbitt Grill.  My friend Meagan told me about it and after a look at the menu we knew it was a must.  When we showed up it was close to an hour wait so we opted to eat at the bar and it was incredibly fast and one of the best meals we've had!  The service was wonderful and the atmosphere was VERY DC (even at the bar - hahaha)

Luke had the pork chop, I had the french dip and we shared key lime pie for dessert.

We headed back to the hotel (only a block away) to freshen up a bit before grabbing an Uber and heading over to the Kennedy Center...

There was a really great exhibit on the terrace level...

.... and then we saw Shear Madness.  Luke was totally skeptical of this (who remembers when I took him to see Hairspray before a track meet - hahahaha) but he LOVED IT!  The "whodunnit" and interactive aspects totally drew him and he'll absolutely admit that it was a good time ;)

After that we ubered back to the hotel and pretty much crashed - it was a great (but exhausting) first day!

  1. Looks like such a great trip! DC is such a great city to visit. The Old Ebbitt Grill is a great place - next time you'll have to try their cheesecake, it's amazing.
