Reading Recap

I'd seen the Magnolia Parks books being talked about on several different book IG accounts and bought the series without really knowing much about them.  The covers were intriguing, the girls talking about them seemed to love them so I figured "why not!"

YOU GUYS.  I really don't know why I loved them so much.  They're long, full of fashion references I don't get, kind of angsty and SO SO SO GOOD!!!

Maybe it was BECAUSE it wasn't like books I typically read, maybe it was because the drama sucked me in, maybe it was because it was so far-fetched??!?!  Either way I really loved it!  I wouldn't recommend it unless you can commit to reading the series but if you're looking for something that will suck you into the lives of some super entitled and ridiculous British socialites give it a shot ;)

I jumped into Daisy Haites immediately after finishing Magnolia Parks and loved it even more than MP.  It follows what I'd call "side characters" from the first book but in a kind of overlapping timeline with the main characters from MP being side characters so it added a lot of depth to the first book while giving you a lot of insight into the characters that you didn't really get to know in the first book.

This book had a crime element that I found intriguing and while it was still angsty and a little far-fetched I really enjoyed it. Hence....

.... me jumping straight into Magnolia Parks, The Long Way Home.  I started this one on the plane on the way home from CA and I cried while reading it.  It definitely give you some backstory and history of the long (drawn out and dramatic) history with Magnolia and BJ and gives you some insight into some of their ridiculous behavior and, somehow, 1000+ pages into these characters I was still into reading about them ;) I'm currently reading the last book and will sum up my thought on the whole series in next month's post.

Everyone in my Family Has Killed Someone was s super fun audible listen although I did find myself occasionally having to backtrack because I wasn't paying close enough attention and felt like I missed things.  It was a murder-mystery told in a unique narrator style with lots of quirky humor and I didn't see the ending coming at all.  The main character, Ern, was endearing and I was definitely engaged and invested the whole time.

Missing Molly was a super unique premise... Rachel is working for a newspaper that starts an investigative podcast looking into the disappearance of the only surviving victim of a family's murder, Molly, but it turns out that Rachel IS Molly Foster who has been hiding from the person who murdered her family years ago.  I felt like the book was full of great characters and I really found myself rooting for Rachel/Molly.  It was unique and intriguing and well-narrated if you're into audiobooks.

I'll admit that I picked up Confess without really reading anything about it so I didn't know what to expect when I was reading it which, honestly, was fun.  I kept expecting there to be a murder or weird dark scene (I'll chalk that up to Verity PTSD - hahaha) but even with no murder or mystery I really enjoyed it.  It turned out to be a love story with some twists and turns and a (kind of unbelievable) sweet ending and while I liked it it wasn't in my top picks for the month.  BUT if you're into books without vampires, murders or obnoxious British socialites (which seem to be what I'm into now - hahaha) I'd definitely give it a shot.

HAPPY Monday and happy reading, friends!!!

  1. I enjoyed Confess and have not heard of the Magnolia series before... that set sounds intriguing.
