Prayers for Uvalde

I've been overwhelmed by the inundation of graphics and posts and stories and articles and "hot takes" and all the things, but this comment stuck amongst the crowd and I felt like it was worth sharing today as we're all grappling with action steps.

I've held sobbing kids in a locked classroom trying to keep them quiet while waiting for police to arrive, thought through plan and then backup plan and then backup backup plan and sat through enough active shooter trainings to know that there HAS to be change.  HAS to be.  I'm prayerful that in addition to prayers and policies and protection we can also offer students (and each other) the love that's mentioned in the post above.  Praying for the community of Uvalde and for our country.

  1. I'm a teacher in Florida. A friend and I posted yesterday about the real practice of looking for exits every time we enter a classroom. I've talked to my students (grades 9-12) about what we will do if I ever need to stand between them and an intruder. When I started teaching over 20 years ago, I could not imagine this. I pray daily for the safety of our students and staff.

  2. HAS TO BE! Thank you for loving kids so well and protecting them in a place that should always be safe. You are appreciated. Loving those families and praying for them and also change in November.

  3. Thank you for posting this. Such a scary world we live in but that is such a good reminder of kind things we need to be doing on a daily basis. This world needs more love and kindness. I have been praying for the community and families in Uvalde.

    1. Love, kindness and FACE TO FACE connection - I feel like everyone is so disconnected while being connected to their screens. Making a point to make more personal connections on a daily basis!

  6. I’ll absolutely pray for the families because they have suffered the worst possible loss. I’ll also express my thoughts on gun policy. That’s MY right.

    1. Absolutely - I didn't read the commenters post as saying otherwise.
