Monsters Love School

If you haven't read Monsters Love School you HAVE to check it out.  It's the CUTEST book about a set of monsters headed to school and it's funny and colorful and PRECIOUS!  I don't believe that you're EVER too old for a great picture book and Mason and G really enjoyed this one.  We liked it so much that we decided to make our own monsters!

We used 9x12 watercolor paper and drew the outlines of monsters in oil pastels.  We talked about how the monsters in the book had lots of textures (scales, swirls, etc.) and tried to mimic some of those patterns in our monsters.

Then we painted them using liquid watercolors talking about how our pastel lines resisted the watercolor.

When our monsters were dry we cut eyes out of the scraps of watercolor paper and then embellished our monsters using construction paper.

When they were dry we taped them to a piece of clear stretch cord and made a mantle garland out of them.  They turned out SO CUTE and the kids LOVED how they looked like they could have fit right into the book.

This craft would go PERFECTLY with a batch of  Monster Cookies for a back-to-school treat!

HAPPY Monday, friends!!!
