Day in the Life - Summer Edition

Today I'm sharing a day in the life - summer edition.  Some days are packed with friends and actives and what not and some days have NOTHING on the agenda.  This day ended up being a good mix of both so here we go!

I most definitely don't set an alarm in the summer unless I absolutely have to.  Most days I'm up between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m.

Typically Rosie sleeps in Lukes bed with him but both the boys had a friend sleeping over and so we kept Rosie with us so she wouldn't wake up their friends with her snoring :) Seriously - my kids are used to it and there are a few friends who insist on snuggling up with her when they sleep over but she was more than happy to hang with us as well,

Up and at 'em.  Kind of ;)

Boys were starting to get up and moving so Dave was hanging with them and I took Rosie on a quick walk around the neighborhood.

Back home and Dave made me a cup of tea and I looked over my to-do-list.  I try to break tasks up by day and then highlight things that I don't get to and (hopefully) by the end of the week everything is done.

I threw in a load of laundry...

... and by about 9:15 Griffin was home and the boys friends were picked up.  Look at the makeup these girls had time to do that early in the morning :). Their brothers were for SURE not up early enough for that!

Excited to show me her "makeup bag" and discuss her lip gloss choice ;)

Cereal outside while they chatted about their sleepovers...

... and then it was on to chores.  Mason had "pool care" this morning and he is the CUTEST pool boy EVER!

He also picked a few tomatoes and strategically placed a few fake bugs in the planters to try and scare his mama :)

After a few outdoor chores the kids came inside to unpack and play and I got ready to do my quiet time and have breakfast.

Honest moment - I totally failed at the Bible Recap podcast reading plan.  I was always distracted, was constantly playing catch up and wasn't very consistent.  I decided to try the book instead and I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!! So I've restarted and it's so much more my jam.

Kids were playing nicely upstairs (Legos, army guys and Barbies) so I got a load of laundry folded...

... and dishwasher started...

... and got out a trash bag to go room to room emptying bins and just trashing general clutter (paper, etc.)

The kids came down to get their laundry to put away and then we played a few rounds of Blokus....

... and then they finished up their chores while I got pool photos taken for a blog post.

We decided to make a trip to the library to return our last bunch of books...

... and pick out some new reading material.

SUPER sunny selfie on the way out :)

Home and I switched over the laundry...

... had a fun package on the doorstep...

... and these two got to reading.   Well... I thought they were reading.  Turns out G was snoozing (remember that sleepover she had the night before)...

It was almost 1:00 by the time I did a few more little chores (wiping down counters, cleaning some stuff out of the fridge, etc) and I got lunch stuff out for the kids.

I set stuff out for them to make sandwiches and let them do their own plates.  I leave it out in case they need seconds and they always enjoy making it themselves.

I knew Griffin was wiped so she kept on napping through lunch and after the boys emptied the dishwasher...

... and then I made my lunch and sat down to eat it and read a bit.

Somehow I ended up laying down on the couch to "read" which was secret code for take a nap of my own ;)  The boys have been taking apart and rebuilding Lego sets so they were upstairs doing that - the perks of older kids! I remember the baby/toddler days when I would be EXHAUSTED and would have given pretty much anything for a mid-day siesta :)

Here's the problem - I dozed off and woke up at 3:30 in a bit of a panic because we had to pick up G's friend for volleyball at 4:00.  I woke Griffin up, made her a quick sandwich plate while she gathered up her things for volleyball and the boys got out their iPads to play Minecraft with friends and we made it out the door on time.

Diet Coke with lime....

.... and a healthy snack on the way to volleyball ;)

Made it!

I took the girls in and watched for a bit and then headed to the grocery store to grab some stuff for dinner.  (G's friends mom was picking them up and bringing them home)

I snuck in a few chapters while I shopped...

.... and when I got home (right around 5:45) this was the scene in Luke's room.  Sleepovers will do that to ya!

Griffin got home and we had to try on our matching bracelets that had arrived...

... and then she got on her iPad for a bit while I got tacos ready.

Dave got home around 6:45 and we woke Mason up and sat down for dinner around 7:00.

After dinner Dave and the kids cleaned up and I got a little bit of blog work done while watching the new episode of Good Girls.

I worked for about an hour or so while they cleaned up and took Rosie for a walk and then it was time for s'mores...

and a "dive in movie" :) (except it was an episode of Lego Masters)

We hung out watching Lego Masters and Dude Perfect videos and came in around 10.  Kids tucked in and I hopped in the shower really quick and then washed my face with  the cleansing balm, followed up with the micro mineral scrub...

... and then used  the retinol night oil and eye serum.  I put it on and then did a quick Gua Sha stone massage...

... and finished things off with  water drench moisturizer.  I was GLOWING - hahaha

At this point my greased up face and I hopped into bed to watch a show with Dave and read a few chapters of my book.

There you have it - if you have any questions let me know!

    1. Solidarity! LOL! I failed at the podcast. I tried to redeem myself. TWICE. I liked the idea of it, but I have issues with consistency. :)

  5. I love day in the life posts! Looks like the perfect summer day. I love a good afternoon nap, too! I also love Good Girls! Did you hear that it isn’t renewed for next season? 😢

  6. I have a question! Do you have a mandatory reading time each day? Or, the kids have to do x amount of reading? I'm trying to incorporate a little reading time in their days. I'm at work though, but they could still do it on their own at 12 and 15 years old.
