Word of the Year: JOY

I'm typically not a "word of the year" or a resolutions person.  Being in the classroom for 15 years for me my "fresh starts" tend to come in August as I operate on a school calendar BUT this year I'm breaking out of my New Year's box and picking a "word" for 2021 - JOY!

This devotion from First 15 really stuck with me and joy just felt fitting.

"It’s only in setting him always before us that we will be fully strengthened by the joy that comes from relationship with him. And it’s only in continually seeking his presence that we will discover the fullness of joy and pleasure meant to be our portion as his children."

Seeking joy in all things, doing more of what brings joy to our family (and less of what doesn't!) and strengthening our relationships with the Lord and experiencing the joy that comes from that closeness.

I'm curious - do you pick a word for the year?  Make resolutions?  Let me know!

Happy (almost) 2021, friends!!!

  2. My word this year is 'contentment'. My husband has ALS and for now, I can still care for him. Because of his prognosis if he got covid, we really can have no social life which means no church or gym for me, and very limited contact with our children and grandchildren. I am learning to be at peace in our very lonely at times, little world (he can no longer speak). Today when I woke up, I thanked the Lord for His new mercies - Learning to be content.

  3. Joy is such a great word! What a fresh perspective going into 2021. I have a small Etsy shop and am doing some word of the year cards and phone wallpaper personalized with any word of the year anyone would like. I’d love to make one for you or any of your readers! Love your blog! Etsy.com/shop/gracecreativegoods

  4. I used to pick a word for the year, but I'm not sure why I stopped. I just recently took a quiz from Dayspring that gave me ideas of what my word for the year could be, and the answer it gave to me was "connect". That has given me ideas of what this next year could look like. I love a new beginning, though and am hopeful for what could come from 2021. I know that no matter what happens, the Lord is near to us who know and love Him and that He will always be there to help us. Happy New Year!

  6. This is perfect. For many years, I always chose a word for the new year but haven't in quite a while. I love what you have chosen. So many of us need more joy in our lives.

  7. The word that keeps floating around in my head is spark. I don't know what that means, but I guess I'll see what SPARKS in my life this coming year

  8. Joy seems so very appropriate for 2021. I actually started doing a word of the year after reading you or one of your friends’ blogs a few years ago. This year my word is steadfast. I want unwavering faith despite my circumstances and to be anchored by God’s steadfast love. Wishing you a Happy New Year!

  10. My 2021 word: Seasons
I want to breathe in each season and embrace the transition to the next season. I will be getting a fresh perspective 4 times a year. Happy New Year to you and your family!

  12. We did! I usually pick words like joy or peace, but this year I felt God put on my heart that our goal for this year needs to be servanthood. I’m looking forward to seeing how this plays out with my 3 boys.
