What's Up Wednesday

Today I'm linking up with  Shay and  Sheaffer to talk a little bit about what's been going on around here!

A rainy evening called for a family favorite -  my mom's creamy rice casserole.  It's total comfort food and is something I totally crave when it's chilly outside and/or I've been away from home.

Nothing in particular but these cuties popped up on my Facebook newsfeed this week...

I got sucked into an Old Navy/GAP sale last week via an email that slipped through my UnrollMe system and next thing I knew Griffin had a new Spring wardrobe :)  All joking aside she is growing like a WEED and the prices were SO GOOD!  She had a striped romper similar to  this one last year (or maybe the year before) from the toddler section at Old Navy and I was so excited to see a version of it back!  They're so soft, a bit of a cropped fit and she LOVES them.  They look so cute with Natives or Birkenstocks.  I also grabbed  this denim jacket because SEQUINS and rainbows - the fit is PRESH!

The bathing suits are what initially "got me" -  the rashguard one is SO CUTE and perfect for long days in the pool (I much prefer a rash guard because it keeps her shoulders protected from the sun) and  the leopard print is darling and the keyhole style always reminds me of suits I wore in the nineties :)

I loved a keyhole as a kid and apparently G does too :)

Last, I grabbed  this rainbow tee and  wide leg cropped sweatpants.  Griffin will be 7 in April and everything I got her is a size small (6/7) and fits really well.  I feel like GAP can be hit or miss sometimes but there is some CUTE STUFF out right now in case you're getting ready for Spring!

Lots of "regular life" things.  Including celebrating the 100th day of school yesterday.  Mason had to bring in 100 items to contribute to his class trail mix and I love that he wanted to share Smarties with his friends at school.  Smarties are a Canadian (and British?) candy that's similar to M&Ms but WAY better.  My cousin brought us a few big bags when he visited earlier this month and we've been rationing them ever since :)

I'm reading The Alice Network and am dreading it being over because I'm loving it SO MUCH!!! I'm torn between dying to see how it ends and wanting it to last just a little bit longer.  Anyone else do that???

This one is for Mason who has been working HARD on his Bible memory passage for an ACSI speech competition.  He has to memorize the passage and then deliver it in front of judges and will be scored on his delivery (eye contact, stage presence, etc.) and he has been working SO HARD!  He left his practice packet out the other night and his little highlights and markings were just too cute. Proud of him!

While I am NOT READY for Winter to be over I stopped by our local nursery last weekend to grab something and got KIND OF excited about Spring planting :) I know.  Weirdo.

I watched CHEER on Netflix and LOVED IT!  It had a Last Chance U feel to it and I feel like I started it and then all of a sudden I was 7 episodes deep :) hahaha  And the Twitter posts with #NetflixCheer have me ROLLING...

The next three are WAY better in video format but you'll get the idea...

This is technically watching but I'm adding it because when you watch you listen, right? I started watching The CHOSEN and I'm LOVING IT!!!  I typically watch things that I can "multitask" while watching and this requires my full attention but it's SO GOOD!  It gives "personality" to familiar characters from the Bible and it is very well done.

I shared this coat on Instagram and lots of y'all have loved it as much as me - it's lightweight but super warm and living somewhere like Texas where you definitely need a coat but nothing super heavy it's been PERFECT.  It's waterproof and will carry me right through Spring when I need a layer in the morning and it's a super cute fit with an internal drawstring in case you want a little bit more shape.  It's currently on sale at several different retailers and I'll link them all in a widget below...

I got a spark of inspiration last week and decided to do a really fun themed lunch for my kids to kickoff February :)  I don't get to do themed bday parties anymore and am taking out my need for creative party planning - hahaha  In my head it's going to be REALLY CUTE and a big surprise for them so I'm excited.  I'll probably share on Instagram as I put it together so you can follow along there :)  Here's what got my creative wheels turning...

All the Valentien's Day fun at school and at home with my kids, my birthday (mainly excited about the pizza I've already requested for my birthday dinner - hahaha) and a day off of school for President's Day.  Last year we did "brinner" for Valentine's Day and I need to think through what we're going to do this year since it'll just be me and the kids (Dave works Friday nights).

This isn't necessarily new BUT it was suuuuper foggy here on Monday morning and I thought that this picture of Dallas taken from an airplane was the COOLEST ever!

Happy Wednesday, friends!!!

  5. I loved Cheer and the memes/social media after it has been so fun. The other day I re-posted a letter board that said "if you're not Jerry level enthusiastic about my success we can't be friends" :)

  6. I'm kind of obsessed with those Cheer memes! Hahaha. Especially the "if you aren't cheering me on like Jerry, step aside....".

And that pic of Dallas is super cool. Would make a cool canvas!

  10. Kate Quinn has another book that just came out - The Huntress! (literally just downloaded it to my Kindle five minutes ago. I'm not exactly sure if it's a sequel but also set in WWII). Another similar book is Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly.

  12. Do you get helium balloons filled for all your parties (looking at last years v-day tablescape pic) ? or do you have your own helium tank? Helium can get too $$$ but I love the look!

    1. I don't use helium balloons for balloon arches but on that "love you brinner" table where the balloons were tied to the chairs I did. I get them filled at my local grocery store.

  13. I've never commented, but read your blog regularly. Just HAD to mention that I have my working on the exact same speech with my 3rd grader. He made it past his class and then school meet, so we are heading to state competition in March. ...Consider the Ravens... :)
