Christmas Books

I've been collecting Christmas books since Luke was a baby and we get them out every December and have th ebest time reading and enjoying them during our reading time at night.  I love hearing the kids go, "ohhhhh! This one is my FAVORITE! No... THIS ONE is my favorite!" and reminisce about reading them year after year.

It's one of my absolute favorite Christmas traditions and I so enjoy picking out a few new books to add to our collection each year.  Today I'm going to share our newest additions and hope that you find a new good one (or two!) to add to (or start) your collection.

Silent Night is a BEAUTIFUL book.  It's the lyrics to Silent Night and we have sung this book dozens of times already.

I really can't say enough great things about the illustrations - I mean - gorgeous.

Last Stop on the Reindeer Express is SUCH a sweet book - especially if your kids are spending Christmas away from family members.  The story tells the tale of a girl getting a letter to her grandpa and the peek through pages and beautiful illustrations are just the icing on the cake for this precious story.

Nativity is another new addition and I love it SO SO SO much!  It's simple text from the Bible and the illustrations are outstanding.

Mice Skating isn't necessarily a Christmas book but I couldn't resist it considering Griffin's affinity for her Maileg mice.  It's a really cute story of a mouse who LOVES the snow and tries to convince her friends to come and ice skate with her instead of burrowing down for the winter.  We'll probably keep this book out past Christmas time.

Not sure how I forgot to take a picture of the cover of  When Santa Was a Baby but this is probably my kids FAVORITE this season.

It's super clever...

... and the kids think it's HILARIOUS!  Baby Santa does things like train pet hamsters to pull a sleigh and stand in front of the fridge to get the cold :)

Throughout the books his parents are super proud of him and it's just all around adorable.

I'm not going to lie... when I read  Red and Lulu for the first time I bawled.

Essentially, Red and Lulu have made a home in the perfect tree...

... and one day the tree is cut down (I KNOW!!!) and Red and Lulu are separated.  (I KNOW!!!)

Red starts searching for Lulu and I mean... just read this page...

Spoiler alert - he finds her and everything is find but Y'ALL!!! It's such a touching story, the illustrations are beautiful, it's set in NYC and there's some great history/info about the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree included.  It's Christmas perfection.

Last, but not least - The Crayon's Christmas.

We LOOOOOOVE the crayons books and this one is no exception.  It includes folded letters that the kids can take out of the envelopes and delves into lots of Christmas traditions as well as Hanukkah which I thought was so cool.

It even has paper doll clothes for naked peach crayon :)

I'd probably recommend this book for elementary-aged kids due to the loose pieces it comes with but it's a GREAT one!  Super engaging.

If you'd like even more recommendations be sure to check out  THIS POST from 2017 or THIS POST from last year.

  2. I love collecting Christmas books. I wrap 24 of them for us to unwrap one each day before Christmas. We always get one new one and it's tagged to open first. This year was the Crayons Christmas which was wonderful! And we always read Twas the night before Christmas on the 24th. I have several favorites but if you don't have Pippen the Christmas Pig, you have to get it. It's a wonderful story and makes me cry everytime! Also, the 12 days of Christmas in Canada is awesome and fun in case you want to give your kids a little Canadian Christmas knowledge!!!

  3. I bought Red and Lulu for a friend's daughter as a new baby gift because they are originally from NYC and let's just say that I was totally not crying in the book aisle at Target. Such a sweet story and I loved it!

  4. I love how you have books of diversity. We adopted an African American boy from foster care and I'm getting the Silent Night book.

  5. Several years ago when you posted about this I started buying books for my grandkids to have at my house. We love reading books when they are over. I said this year I wasn't going to buy anymore because we have a huge collection and our basket of books is completely full, but it looks like I will need to buy a bigger basket after seeing these!
