Three Things - First Day of School

- NO MORE RED POLOS -
Luke kindly pointed out to me that this will be his last first day picture in a red polo shirt.  Next year he'll move up to navy polos and khaki shorts and he is PUMPED!

- BIG DOGS -
Luke is FINALLY a "big dog" on campus.  Big Dogs is a special small group program for 5th graders focused on character and spiritual development and I'm so excited for him!

- FOUR SQUARE -
When I asked Luke what he was excited about for fifth grade... three different teachers, more privileges, the Big Dogs program... his response was four square.  FOUR SQUARE ;)

- SWITCHING CLASSES -
In third grade the kids are assigned a homeroom teacher but then their homeroom class switches between teachers so he gets to experience TWO teachers and switching classrooms.

- FOOTBALL SEASON -
Flag football is about to pick back up and Mason is PUMPED!  His league is indoor this season (yes ma'am!!!) and while he thinks he's going to miss the outdoor games I'm excited about no rainouts AND air conditioning!  Mason is also trying out wrestling this season so I'll keep you posted on how that goes.

- BIG BINDER -
Third grade is the year of the "big binder" and Mason thinks he is SO COOL with his giant binder and planner.  He is so excited about writing his homework assignments down and having a calendar and I hope he stays this excited about it forever :)  #fatchance

- BIG PLAYGROUND -
Pre-K and Kinder students play on a smaller playground and Griffin is MOST excited about getting to play with her class on the "big playground" during recess this year.  Monkey bars, tire swings, the whole deal :)  First grade also gets to eat in the "big cafeteria" and they don't have assigned seats - HEAVEN!

- PROUD MAMA -
The mom of a new student in G's class stopped me on Tuesday to tell me that Griffin went out of her way to make her child feel welcome and included on the first day and y'all... I couldn't have been prouder.  I've always said that I don't care what my kids are as long as they're kind so this made me feel like we're doing things right!

- READING GOALS -
Griffin is so close to reading independently.  She's been working hard this summer and we feel like some time in the classroom is going to be just what she needs to really take off with reading.

- YEAR FOURTEEN -
Year fourteen has started and I really can't believe I've been in the classroom that long. I have former students having kids of their own (some attending where I teach!) and former students ON STAFF and it's blowing my mind a little bit.

- LIFE OF LEISURE -
With the hottest part of the year upon us Jelly Bean has been inside pretty much all day every day and we joke that she's living the life of leisure we all want.  We come home and she's sound asleep in a basket of blankets and all of us are extremely jealous :)

- DRUM LESSONS -
Dave's dream is coming true and he's starting to work with Luke on some percussion skills.  Band starts in 6th grade and he's crossing his fingers Luke falls in loves with drumline.  We'll see!

Happy Thursday, friends!!!
