Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, friends!!!  This was my last full week of school and it was a DOOZY!  But the end is in sight and we are HERE FOR IT!

If you're linking up with Erika,  Narci and I today for Friday Favorites please make sure that you're including our graphic in your post, linking back to one (or all!) of us and linking up a Friday Favorites post (not a random post) :)

First up on my list of FAVORITES is Mason's Flat Stanley video!!! I can't believe I forgot to share this when he completed the project back in March but thanks to some amazingly gracious hosts Flat Stanley was able to go on a pretty epic global adventure.  Mason learned SO MUCH completing this and he and I had a great time putting together his video.

Next up - teacher gifts!  This time of the year I get asked often for teacher gift recommendations and my response is always words of encouragement!  Write a note, email, letter, card to your child's teacher(s) and let them know how much you appreciate them, something your child has learned in their class this year, etc.

An instagram follower made a FANTASTIC point and suggested writing an email and letting the principal know how fantastic your child's teacher has been this year - often times administrators hear the complaints and hearing the positive would be a boost for the teacher and principal.  You could write a thank you email to the teacher and CC the principal OR write an email to the principal letting them know about your positive experience and CC the teacher.  Either way - AMAZING

If you're wanting to do something in addition to a thank you note keep in mind that it really doesn't have to be HUGE to put a big smile on a teacher's face.  $5 to cover their morning caffeine run or ice cream for their own kids on their way home from school.  Since I teach middle school I'm one of 8 (or more!) teachers that my students have and I receive lots of $5 cards and appreciate each and every one!

A sweet instagram friend sent me this this week and I thought it was AWESOME!

I feel like we've officially switched over to "summer mode"... I've been doing my grading at night poolside while the kids swim which has meant late dinners and lots of my FAVORITE Diet coke with lime :)

Since we're gearing up for summer I just restocked a bunch of our favorite sunscreens...

... we go through a TON of sunscreen and last summer babyganics, supergoop and alba baby were our favorite and this summer I'm trying out the blue lizard and bare republic after several recommendations.

You can shop all of my FAVORITES (along with the super cute rainbow pouch) below...

Mason's FAVORITE part of the week was getting to check out the lunar samples Mrs. Boese had on loan from NASA.  The kids got to check out soil samples and TOUCH A MOON ROCK!  How cool is that?!?!

Jelly Bean has a new FAVORITE spot to hang out... my broken bird bath :)  The kids think that this is hilarious since she has a history of "playing with" birds.

When it starts getting warmer my favorite thing to wear is pretty much anything linen.  I grabbed   this dress and ended up loving the color/length/style so much more than I thought I would.  It's going to be a summer staple for sure.

Jack Bauer's FAVORITE place to be is anywhere I am... even if that means he has to sit on top of my bag :)

The boys were at golf this week and Griffin was LOVING having the whole pool to herself... for about 20 minutes at which point she realized that her brothers really are her FAVORITE and she floated around looking like this until they got home :)

My little lefty has worked so hard on her handwriting this year and seeing her sweet little penmanship on assignments like this is my FAVORITE... even if we do need to have a discussion about how carrots grow :) hahaha

Doing one of his FAVORITE things!

I hope y'all have a wonderful weekend! Happy Friday, friends!

  2. I absolutely loved the adventures of Flat Stanley - thank you for sharing!
This is a new concept to me, and I'd love to get my nephew to do it when he is a bit older (he is only 1 now). I looked it up, but could you please help with some more information?
For instance, I see there are several Flat Stanley books. Does one need a few, or is the original enough to introduce the idea to the child and get him excited about the experiment?
And, does one need to be a teacher to enroll a child for this? Or it can be done by a parent/aunt too?

    Thanks a lot.

    1. I think it just depends on the classroom teacher... our teacher reads the book and then leaves the assignment pretty open-ended after that. Since we had several willing hosts I that were far away I ended up scanning in Flat Stanley and then his hosts printed and cut him out and showed him around. When Luke did this project we mailed his original to Australia... but with time constraints this just worked better for us this time. Mason did it with his class but you could totally do it as a fun thing with just your child.

  6. It looks to me that Griffin knows exactly how carrots grow! You can see they're all under the dirt with just the tops peeking out! :)

  7. Griffin's handwriting looks great! My son is the same age and while his handwriting has improved, it doesn't look as good as hers ha ha!

  9. Can you tell us the logistics of how you get Flat Stanley to appear in all those places?! Did you just make connections with the hosts through your blog? Does Stanley literally go to every place or is a new Stanley printed by each host? So cool and just wondering how it works! Thanks!

    1. Sure! We actually scanned Flat Stanley and emailed him out this year to several amazing hosts. When Luke did the project we mailed the original Stanley to Australia and when we had so many people willing to host Stanley this year, scanning him in and emailing him was the best option (this actually came about because there was no way to get Flat Stanley to the South Pole other than via email!). And yes... I posted on my Instagram story and had several amazingly gracious people offer to host him - a perk FOR SURE of social media!

  12. Don't you just love when your kids realize they miss their siblings when they aren't around?! I remind mine of this often when they are together and fussing! Ha! And I'm a Diet Coke drinker but never had it with lime! I'll have to try it! Thanks for the fun link-up!
