Amish Sugar Cookies

I've had great success with a couple of Amish bread recipes and I was really excited to try out this Amish sugar cookie recipe.

What You'll Need:
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar

What You'll Do:
Beat together the butter, oil and sugars.  Beat in the eggs until they're well blended.  Beat in the vanilla.

Combine the flour, baking soda and cream of tartar in a separate bowl and then gradually add it to the creamed mixture.

Drop the dough by teaspoonfuls onto an ungreased baking sheet and bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned.

Happy Baking, friends!!!

  2. I get so many neat gift ideas for grand kids on your blog! I live in Amish country and there is a 'hole in the wall' bakery not too far away that has the BEST bread, rolls, and cinnamon rolls. There is also a donut in our area known as 'Amish Crack'. Yum!

  3. I borrowed a Amish cookbook from the library over the summer and made a few recipes from it , they were delicious ! I don’t recall seeing a sugar cookie recipe in it so I’ll be trying this today!( especially since we woke up to snow thank goodness it’s already melting)

  5. I have a similar recipe, except you flatten the cookie with a glass dipped in sugar before baking. We like to sprinkle again with colored sugar for holidays!
