What's Up Wednesday

Today I'm linking up with  Shay,  Sheaffer and  Mel for the last What's up Wednesday of the year!

Dave and I have both been craving  this creamy rice casserole and so it was on the menu last night.  If you haven't tried it it's a comfort food staple at our house!

Christmas brings about ALLLL the nostalgia.  Here are a few of my very favorite Christmas season pictures ever.

Christmas 2008 - Luke was 8 months old and I can't with his hair and chubby little legs.

Christmas 2012 - we had SO MUCH SNOW!  I was pregnant with Griffin (the boys were 4 and 1) and I remember being super frustrated on this day... nothing went "as planned" and I was pretty overwhelmed... but walking home from dinner at my parent's house in the snow with Luke is one of my fondest memories ever.  It was so quiet and perfectly "snow-lit" (y'all know what I'm talking about, right?) and we crunched our way home through the snow and it was perfection.

Christmas 2014 - The kids were 1, 3 and 6 and it was complete chaos and SO MUCH FUN!  I'm not sure there's ever been a cuter Christmas.

Christmas 2016 - It was my oma's last Christmas and she was in town visiting.  Memories from this year are some of my very favorite.

I've shared these before, but these old Santa pictures never get old!  The first one is my brother (1987) and bedraggled Santa cracks me up EVERY SINGLE TIME.

This is my dad (we think late fifties, early sixties) and it's vintage perfection.  Also - who thinks that Mason looks just like my dad?!?!

School parties, exams and Dave survived his craziest two weeks of the year.  ALL the praise hands!

Taking down my Christmas decorations because I love them SO MUCH!!! I love the fresh and clean feeling that always goes along with taking everything down, but love the twinkle lights even more.

I'm starting to make my Christmas baking list and I'm getting SO EXCITED!!!  Nanaimo bars,  Shay's cranberry orange bundt cake, cookies,  Texas sheet cake... bring it on!  All of it!

Break with my kiddos!  So grateful for a couple of weeks to rest, recharge and be homebodies together :)  Fort building, game playing, craft making - so excited!

Dave and I just started Sneaky Pete and so far we're really liking it!

I'm also watching A Million Little Things and LOVE IT!

This Christmas playlist...

ALLLL the cozy things

Honestly - not a whole lot and I am SO EXCITED!!!  I'm done shopping and wrapping and so we'll probably do some baking but other than that we're just relaxing!  We also have a whole list of Christmas movies to start working through!

Honestly???  I'm looking forward to the quiet.  While I love the hustle and bustle of Christmas I'm looking forward to having a whole lot of nothing on the agenda.  I feel like this picture of Jack Bauer and I snuggling on the couch is fitting ;)

This is actually the opposite of new but would you LOOK at sweet Baby Mason in his diaper and boots?!?!

Happy Wednesday, friends!!!

  5. I enjoy reading your blog for many reasons, but the primary one is the Canadian glimpses I see in your writing/life. I too was born and raised in Canada, have Dutch roots, and currently live in Iowa. A former kindergarten teacher--now mostly a stay at home mom, with a part-time gig at a tax office. I (we) have three kiddos, love my Oma, enjoy a good cup of tea (Rooibos with honey!), and could live off of Nanaimo Bars! Merry Christmas (eh)!!

  7. I love that you are looking forward to break with your kids. I can't tell you how many of the parents here I hear complain about break being too long and how they have so much to do.
