We have had a FANTASTIC summer full of fun and have made some incredible memories but we've been out since May and I start back this Thursday (meetings, professional development, etc.) so we've been gradually switching over from summer-mode to back-to-school mode :) I'm not going to lie... the last couple of weeks of summer can easily take on the "Sunday Scaries" vibe... where you really focus on how little time left you have left BUT I try to combat that with making back-to-school as much fun and as exciting as I can.
On the console table I put out a few sunflowers from the grocery store, this candle and this caddy filled with art supplies. I also used an old globe on the lower shelf.
I bought the art caddy at Nordstrom on sale but it doesn't appear to be in stock anymore - but you can also find it on Amazon HERE.
The apple banners (there are two of them) I picked up for $10 on Amazon, the greenery is from Hobby Lobby and the globes were a Homegoods find several years ago.
In the nook area next to the fireplace I switched out a few little things, added a globe I thrifted years ago, etc.
The sign is from Vine and Branches and the cake stand is from Home Goods.
The chalkboard I picked up on a trip to Magnolia Market.
I left out the blue/white striped pillows that I had out for Fourth of July...
... and switched out the decor on the large tiered stand (from Homegoods) to some colorful accessories. (The flower pot, plate, bowls and candles are all from Anthropologie - the globe is from Homegoods).
My helper :)
I added a chalkboard sign on the desk...
... and switched out a few things on this stand on the counter and called it a day downstairs :)
Upstairs in the game room I added a few little touches as well...
On the TV stand I added a garland with these globe paper lights that I found at Homegoods...
... and I changed out the patriotic books on the bookshelf for some back-to-school ones.
In Back-to-School Rules, Percy outlines the 10 rules of school in a super cute and funny way. My kids were rolling while we read this one.
I feel like there's no more "iconic" school books than the Miss Nelson series. It's been so fun to introduce our kids to some of our FAVORITE childhood books.
Dear Teacher is my kids FAVORITE!
It looks like a envelope....
... and when you open it there's a welcome back to school letter...
... followed by several letters to Michael's teacher detailing his adventures and explaining why he wouldn't be returning to school :) This one is imaginative, the illustrations are precious and the ending is great.
I switched out the kids art for a few of their pieces from last year...
... and put another strand of globe lights on the chippy chalkboard.
I'm not going to lie - when I pulled out the box with the globes and the apples there were a few groans from Luke and Mason because "is summer reeeeeealllllyyyyy already over?!?!" but the more we've talked about it and made it fun with things like shoe shopping, decorating and talking about activities that will start once school starts the more excited they've gotten.
When do y'all head back? I know lots of people are going back mid-August and some of y'all not until September! If you're a September person I'm officially jealous!
Happy Tuesday, friends!
PS - this post contained affiliate links... thank you so much for reading and supporting my blog!
We don't go back until September 5th, but we didn't get out of school until June 22nd. Good luck with back to school!
ReplyDeleteIs it weird that when you decorate for back to school, fall begins in my heart?
ReplyDeleteDitto!!
DeleteMy kids start back tomorrow. I’m so sad. Love all your decorations.
ReplyDeleteYour house looks fantastic and super cozy. In fact, you might find me curled up on the couch at 3:00 sipping coffee. Would that be weird??
ReplyDeleteVery inspiring! Whatever happened to that cassette tape chalk board you wanted to use for back to school?
ReplyDeleteYour decor is always the BEST. Stock piling all these ideas away for when I have kids. We always went back at the end of August, but I went back in September while in grade school ;) however, we didnt get out until mid-June!
ReplyDeletegrad school**!!
DeleteLove all the decorations!! I have no kids so I don't own ANY back to school decor but I am not looking forward to school buses being back on the roads yet - LOL!!!!
ReplyDeleteI never would've thought about decorating for back to school. What a cute idea! I love all your décor!
ReplyDeleteWe don't start back until 8/27 so I haven't switched gears in my head yet, but I do love all your decor. I do like to transition first to back to school/football before I take on full-out fall...it helps the seasons not feel so rushed. I hope pre-planning and the last days of your summer are perfect!
ReplyDeleteLove your decor! We start back on August 15th. My oldest starts high school this year- can’t believe it!
ReplyDeleteHow cute! Where did you get the frames for the kids' artwork?
ReplyDeleteWe start back August 16 and I am not ready at all. I work in HR for a school district and this summer has been waaaay too fast!
ReplyDeleteI love your back-to-school décor! Such a fun way to ease into the season;). We homeschool so I can start anytime I like but I usually begin mid-late August because I like to be done by Memorial Day.
ReplyDeleteOMG, those Miss Nelson books took me way back, I used to love them!! Your decor is so creative and you always give me the best ideas (I love a good theme too!) Side note, did you end up returning that cassette tape chalk board?!
ReplyDeleteKids here start next Wed, the 8th!
ReplyDeleteI like your sectional sofa, where did you purchase it from?
ReplyDeleteI love your home decor posts!!! I'll be decorating today because we go back next Wednesday. I'm so bummed but atleast we have Christmas break to look forward to, right? ;)
ReplyDeleteYour decorations are always so cute! Thanks for all the good book recommendations for the kiddos!
ReplyDeleteI always love your books! I save them to my amazon wishlist! My kids started back last Monday 7/23.
ReplyDeleteWe go back September 4th. I definitely think that decorating around the house helps and gets everyone back into the swing of things. Have a great school year!
ReplyDeleteI live in Apex, NC (near Raleigh!) and we are in year round! It took some adjusting, but I'm starting to like it. We go 9 weeks, then off 3. We are tracked out right now so this is our summer! (at least for these three weeks!)
ReplyDeleteWe go back the 3rd week of August. This summer flew by! Love your decor!!
ReplyDeleteYou are my décor inspiration for all the events!! Love it!!
ReplyDeleteYou are so right about the "scaries" creeping in. I adore this time at home with my family, but I do get mixed feelings that I can't wait to meet my new students and get back into our "normal" routine. I love your decorations and I am sure my kids would love this as well.
ReplyDeleteWe don't start back until September 4th but we didn't get out until June 28th. We live in Canada (Ontario) and it's always so hard following all my American friends in June when they're already enjoying summer but it all comes around now when we still have four and a half weeks of summer left. I hope back to school goes well for all of you.
