Thanksgiving Week Part I - Gaylord and Thanksgiving

Last week was SO MUCH FUN and the reprieve we all needed to get ready to power through the next few weeks of work and school.  We got our house decorated, I was able to get our calendar organized (PRAISE!), we caught up on some rest and we had a ton of fun along the way :)  I feel like there's a ton that I need to get caught up on here on the blog so I'm going to be grouping some things from last week together over the next few days.

Dave was off work on Tuesday so we decided to take advantage of the rare free day with all of us home and we headed to the Gaylord for our annual trip to check out the decorations and eat big cookies :)

I've been putting them in the sleigh there since the boys were teeny and I can't get over how BIG they all look in the sleigh now!

If you've never been to the Gaylord at Christmas before the decor is INSANE!!!

There are plants and trains and millions of lights and it's just plain gorgeous.

I get total fern envy every time I go.  I mean... look at those!!!

Can you spy my little crew?

We made our cookie stop and they had actually run out of cookies for the day.  WHAT?!?!  It wasn't even late in the day!  We managed to snag one huge sugar cookie and a few other little snacks and made the most of the best seat in the place.

We threw pennies in the fountain...

... and then headed over to Bass Pro Shop to look at the Christmas gifts and browse the HUGE store.

This picture cracks me up!!!

Watch out, world!

Signs of a great day :)

Thanksgiving morning started low and slow... just the way we like it.  Dave has to work all day on Thanksgiving (it's a huge day at the country club) so we have a tradition of snapping our family picture in our pajamas before he heads in to work.

My mom came over mid-morning and the kids helped her prep the turkey... Griffin was conflicted because she REALLY Wanted to help but she REALLY did not like the raw turkey.

She kept giving it the side eye and my mom and I were cracking up!  Also notice in the picture above how she's standing as far away as possible on the little stool :)

Mason wanted in on the action, but quickly wanted out again...

... so Luke hopped in and took over.

Meanwhile, Mason and Griffin took over green bean prep.

Gibi giving the boys a turkey anatomy lesson (giblets!).  Their concerned little faces are the best!

My mom went home and the kids and I spent the day just hanging out.   The kids were riding bikes outside and the turkey was in the oven so I decided to tackle the bushes out front.  I'm yet to meet an electric hedge trimmer I don't like (and yes... I evened them out a bit after this pic).  The real reason I'm sharing it though is because look on the far left  of the hedge...

... Jelly Bean was ALL ABOUT the trimmed bushes :)

Luke has been SO helpful lately with yard stuff and before he cleaned up the trimmings he took his sister around for a couple of laps :)

We came inside to have some quiet time and set the table and the kids did the whole thing!  The place cards were from last year (yes... I saved them) and the little pilgrim poppers had hats and an ornament in them.

After the table setting there was dancing...

... and then Haha came over for a few games and some football watching.

Turkey is out and the spread is ready!

We popped the poppers and dug right in...

And about an hour later we all looked like this...

It was a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving!!!

Don't forget that tomorrow is Show and Tell Tuesday and the prompt is "Want, Need, Wear, Read" - one of my favorites!

Happy Monday, friends!

  1. What a great day!! I looked like Griffin at the end of the night too. :)

  2. Oh my goodness! So many precious pictures!!

  3. What a great Thanksgiving!! I love all the pics of the kids with the turkey! What great helpers!! :)

  4. What a perfect Thanksgiving Day! My husband works this year on Christmas so I am in the same boat as you ... thankfully we both have family members who join us for the special day.

  5. Can you go to the Gaylord to just look around? Do you have to pay? I've been wanting to do that for so long but I can't seem to find any details about it.

  6. I totally feel Griffin after all that good!! Looks like a wonderful weekend!

  7. Y'all really did it up right! And your house looks great for Christmas (as always)!

  8. I love the place cute!

  9. Looks like a wonderful week! Your posts always make me miss when my kiddos were little. They really do grow too fast!

  10. GG giving that turkey the side eye!! Too funny! I'm so glad y'all had such a wonderful Thanksgiving! And now we count down to Christmas break!! 🙌🏼

  11. Loved this post, such warmth and family fun and memory making times. Loved the table setting as well. Blessings abundant for this holiday season!

  12. I used to feel that way about turkeys too GG! I became a vegetarian at age 12 and never looked back.

  13. I give the turkey the same side-eye that GG does. Thankfully, my husband takes care if it for our holiday dinner;).
