This weekend we whipped up some festive little snack bags to stock our snack basket for the next couple of weeks and turned it into a fun activity so I thought I'd share!
We used mini chocolate chip cookies, orange gummy slices, Cheez-Its, Pretzels, Chocolate covered pretzels and Reese's Pieces (I tried to pick things that were orange, black and white).
Luke was at the lake so I set up two little "stations" for the kids to work at...
I figured out about how many of each item would need to go in each bag to make about 45 snack bags and labeled them so they could practice counting as they put them into the ziplocks.
The counting part took Griffin FOREVER (hahaha), but it was great practice.
He seriously had so much fun making these. Which was really random - but great! I think he liked feeling like he was contributing and accomplishing it all on his own. So sweet! He also reminded me that he couldn't bring peanut butter for his in-class snacks (his class is peanut-free, Griffin and Luke's are not) so we switched out his Reeses for M&Ms.
This was a really simple activity and I really didn't expect the kids to have as much fun as they did. We have a well-stocked snack basket...
... and it hasn't just been the kids who have enjoyed them! :)
I definitely think we'll do this little activity again... at Christmas it would be fun with red and green M&Ms instead of Reeses, marshmallows instead the orange slices and maybe the green and red goldfish instead of Cheez-Its. The kids really enjoyed assembling the bags and it wasn't just fun, but helpful as well.
Hope you're having a great Thursday!!!

ReplyDeleteSuch a cute idea! I just may " steal" it for my preschool class. ;)
ReplyDeleteSteal away!
DeleteVery cute! I think this would even be a nice " goody bag" treat after a birthday party!
ReplyDeleteI love how you snuck a math lesson in as well :-)
It totally would! Great idea!
DeleteLove this!!!
ReplyDeleteLove this! Griffin is in a peanut-free class too and I think it's so sweet when he reminds me no pb because he doesn't want his friend to have to sit by herself. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMason does that too and it's the sweetest!
DeleteYou're such a fun mom! I love this idea!
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet compliment! Thank you!
DeleteWhat a fun idea!!! My kiddos love helping in the kitchen but I love how you incorporated counting into it!! You're an amazing mama and teacher!!
ReplyDeleteThanks!!! And they were so excited and proud to make them! :)
DeleteLove this!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I love that you found seasonal goodies! What a fun activity for the kids.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Michelle!
DeleteWhat a fun idea! My 4 year old would love this and I know my family would love grabbing these little treat bags. Great idea to have your kids count as they fill the bags. You're the perfect math teacher mama :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a fun idea! I just stocked up the snack basket today with like $100 worth of stuff from Costco! :(
ReplyDeleteOh, girl. I know how that goes! hahaha
DeleteWhat a fun & educational idea! I love how you invest in your kids, both with special memories & helping them learn.
ReplyDeleteSweetest comment! THANK YOU!
DeleteSo fun! Now I totally want orange slices! They remind me of my great grandmother.
ReplyDeleteThey're one of my guilty pleasures!
DeleteSuch a wonderful idea! You should really consider being an early years teacher!
ReplyDeleteOh, girl. I don't think I could do that (with all those kids!) all day every day!
DeleteYou are such a brilliant Mum with so many good ideas. It's so clear how much you love spending time with your kiddies, love your blog!
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet! THANK YOU!
DeleteLove this idea for our "fall pumpkin day" snack! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYou're so welcome! Thank you so much for reading!
DeleteThis is so cute! We make "goody mix" fairly often and I've tried a TON of different things. Mini marshmallows get hard fairly quickly so they aren't my favorite add-in.
ReplyDeleteGood tip! Thank you!
DeleteThis is so neat, Andrea! Thank you for the fun idea!! :) You are so creative.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Genelle!
DeleteLooks yummy! Not healthy though - not sure that I think this is a good idea for kids' snacks.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lizounette! We tend to do "everything in moderation" so a bag of this every once in a while isn't an issue in our house. Thanks for the input!
DeleteSo, I ended up doing this with my preschoolers. I made some adjustments and called it Scarecrow Crunch. I hope to get it up on the blog tomorrow. I'd love you to take a peek. I'll for sure give you credit. You're the shizzle. :D
ReplyDeleteCUTE!!! I'll be sure to check it out! :)
DeleteIt's up! Thank you again! :)
DeleteThanks, girl!
ReplyDeleteLove this! Gonna do it this weekend, letting the big kids help the little kids. Great way to keep them all occupied at one time!
