Show and Tell Tuesday - Scary Stories

Today we're sharing scary and/or funny Halloween stories.  I wish I had a great scary story, but I don't... so instead I'm going to talk about something that scared the GUTS out of me when I was little.

I was probably in the 3rd grade when I saw Ernest Scared Stupid for the first time.  It was supposed to be funny and silly and instead I found it TERRIFYING!!!  There was this troll who transformed children into wooden dolls to eat their energy and he was captured and sealed under a giant oak tree.  Years later he wakes back up and summons dozens of other trolls. It turns out that milk and/or love destroys them and I used to keep a little thing of milk with me when my brother and I would go play in the woods.  Seriously.  How is this a kids movie?!?!

LOOK HOW SCARY!!!!!

What the HECK were my parents thinking?!?!?!

Traumatized FOR LIFE, y'all!

Another movie that scared the junk out of me was E.T.  To this day I'm terrified of E.T.  Just googling these pictures gave me chill bumps.

Again... how is this okay for kids?!?!?!

I remember watching this at my neighbor's house when we lived in London... so it was probably Kindergarten of 2nd grade.  My dad had to lay with me or sit at the top of the stairs until I fell asleep for MONTHS and to this DAY I have to leave the shower curtains in my house open a bit so I can see inside the tub at night.  I get nauseous just thinking about this movie!

And let's not even talk about how my students know about my fear and take pleasure in sending me things like this...

And now for one of my very FAVORITE funny Halloween stories...

I think that this is fourth or fifth grade where I REALLY wanted a store bought costume (my mom made all my costumes growing up) and so I told my mom I wanted to be the world so that she would have to admit she couldn't make that and I'd get to pick something out at the store last minute.  Well, she came through.  With a geographically accurate costume of the globe made out of fuzzy toilet seat covers.  :)   #touche

Happy October, friends!!!  Your turn!  Link up below and share your scary/funny stories!

  5. Wow your mom was creative with that world costume! I'm impressed! My mom always made our costumes too. My favorite was the year I was Pippi Longstocking and she straightened a clothes hanger over my head and braided pigtails around it! :)

  10. Truth right here. I'm a 30 year old women and had to literally cover the pictures on the computer screen while reading about E.T. The feeling I get when I see a picture of him is just pure fear, especially when it's him after he's sick and turned white. So I'm scared of a fictional alien. :)
I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Also, I love Ernest scared Stupid but that movie should not be for kids!! So messed up.
Thanks for sharing and I love the globe! Hahahaha

  25. I was going to say what Lauren said - that part in Ernest Scared Stupid where she rolls over and the troll is on her bed absolutely traumatized me! I still can't watch that movie, even though I know now it's totally hokey!
